This makes sense - and explains the rocking body, great hair and exuberant personality, or at least the ability to smile and be warm and engaging. I have a few (Northern) Italian friends, and they don't seem to let anything bother them. Are there many Italians in the D.C. area? Is Jill Northern or Southern Italian? I am asking because my Italian friends seem to think that Southern Italians are not Italians, but what do I know. She is light, so I am assuming she is Northern Italian.

There is a lot of poverty, unemployment, and lack of educational opportunity in the South. Your friends are classist a-holes at best...a lot of Sicilians can trace back their DNA back to northern Africa, so if they hate them specifically, they are racist.

This. And Jill's grandfather is Sicilian.

+1

I was just thinking that part of her appeal is that she appears to be warm and genuinely happy.

My husband and me have an ongoing disagreement.....he feels it will be unlikely she can still teach on campus due to the logistics of her security detail, I want to believe she can keep her teaching career. Time will tell.

She is certainly a beautiful woman, especially at 70. But teaching, no. She can not continue her normal job. Are you kidding?

agree with this. And her time will be better spent as first lady (not to get political, but she's smart and has much to offer). If education was her project and she cleaned up the messes out there, I would be very happy.

She said that her project is to help military families.

This might be a really stupid question, but will there be a virtual ball? Will she get the opportunity to wear a ball gown?

I know this is not the most important thing right now but it’s been a tough year and fashion is a nice distraction.

Not a stupid question. Everything is weird this year.

The concert that’s normally the night before is tonight as a replacement for the inaugural balls. Not sure the first and second couples will be dressed formally, but that would be the opportunity.

Agreed. That said-- she's a beautiful women. The more I learn about her, the more I like her.

Normal, well dressed people cannot inspire 900 pages of speculation and discussion.

Only a complete train wreck can.

She looks fine. Nothing to critique, but it also isn't some fabulous style icon look. A nice looking older lady in purple coat and purple gloves. At least she didn't wear a red hat.

I love the purple dress/coat and mask, but not crazy about the gloves with the coat. I think I'd have gone with gloves in a taupe color to match the shoes.

That's a minor nit, though. Overall a beautiful outfit. I love the tie on the coat.
