3.5 is ridiculously low, given the current average. Algebra 1 by 8th grade also isn't much of a cut off. The kids who are into STEM are doing at least Algebra 1 in 7th grade. My DD is taking Algebra 1 honors as a 7th grader and she's honestly not even that good at math. |
Not every school offers Geometry in Middle School and not all FCPS students are on the path to take Algebra in 7th grade. That is part of the problem. As for GPA, if you are coming from a private school or outside of FCPS, everyone does not earn all A's. |
Well, why aren't those schools able to support a Geometry class? Maybe we should work on that problem first? Otherwise, they'll have a high chance of ending up the remedial kids at TJ. |
What a load bull. |
You do realize most students getting into TJ have straight As? The test is only one component. The students still have to go through a holistic review and be evaluated by a committee. |
|
Why is FCPS wasting time and spoiling students future.
The first test should happen in the first week of November. Pathetic! |
You'd also be surprised how far good test taking skills take you in academic life in general, not just on standardized tests/admissions tests type things. --former excellent test taker |
| 3.5 gpa from manassas means they can read and write |
True. You can't compare a 3.5 from Herndon MS to 3.5 from Rocky Run MS. Not even close. |
That's why you need "the test" to weed out the pretenders. |
