Incoming TJ students have average GPA of 3.96. Instead of these students, who have worked very hard, they want to lower the criteria to 3.5. |
3.96? Is that weighted? That's awful high if out of 4 |
you are talking less than top 2-3% of the county making the school more diverse isn't fair 1. The school is already diverse 2. The way to get more URM is to have more URM coming through AAP with more advanced instruction and then better preparedness for TJ 3. What isn't fair is bringing in URM who are less qualified/prepared than non-URM individuals |
Unweighted. https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDYsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsImJ1bGxldGluX2lkIjoiMjAyMDEwMDguMjg0NDg5MDEiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2JpdC5seS8zMEFIdUVuP3V0bV9jb250ZW50PSZ1dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9uYW1lPSZ1dG1fc291cmNlPWdvdmRlbGl2ZXJ5JnV0bV90ZXJtPSJ9.QYSN1ILlP9k3abohlUJw0ti6TkESeMsKQ7dfx7vKxYw/s/566242384/br/86633326458-l |
Means most incoming students have 4.0 GPA. |
That tells me that they may be missing some real STEM geniuses who may not be good in social studies. They've been doing it wrong |
You can basically be an idiot and still get A in social studies in middle school. |
| Still not started? |
and still many TJ student struggles at TJ. Think about URMs coming in without being prepared! |
East Asian countries have a lot of cram schools. Plus the ancient Chinese exam system's influence lingers to this day, at least in the gaokao. |
Most, if not all, Asians value education. There are plenty of rich Asian kids who don’t study hard though. I do think that is an immigrant trait. These people immigrated to the US for a better life. |
| Pp here. I meant rich Asian kids from Asia. |
East Asians believe in meritocracy especially in education. |
Well, sure, but they already have plenty of STEM geniuses who are also good in social studies. |
False. They have excellent test takers who have figured out how to get good grades with as little effort as possible, who get slammed when they arrive at TJ and have real workloads to contend with and have to demonstrate their knowledge in ways other than test-taking. But the status quo admissions process selects for such a student. |
