Fastest Covid test turnaround (Maine requires testing)

MedStar Urgent Care in MD (we went to the Chevy Chase location) offers rapid testing. Got results in 30 minutes; but my understanding is that you have to show covid symptoms to receive rapid results.

Can you just fake cough or so you actually have to be running a fever?

That’s actually a really good turnaround time considering 2 of those days were weekend days.

They do offer rapid testing, but it’s entirely up to the triage nurse and the doctors whether you can get it without symptoms. There seem to be a lot of people attempting to get them, though. Apparently the MedStar hospitals are also doing rapid tests, not sure if you have to be symptomatic.

In the middle of a significant testing crunch, though, it does seem pretty selfish to go fake symptoms so you can go on vacation (and given the lab backlogs, maybe also selfish to get even the regular test so you can go on vacation, as plenty of symptomatic people can’t get the rapid tests and have to wait days and days).

This. My 9 y/o son is running a 104 degree fever. He got a COVID test yesterday at his pediatrician, but they told us the results will take 10 days. According to them, there is no priority given (at the labs) to those with symptoms vs. those who just need tests for travel. This is dumb.

Is Abbott the only brand accepted in Maine? Can it be Sofia or Quiddel?

Technically, yes. Because Abbott is the rapid PCR test while those other two are rapid antigen. But they don't dig that deep into things.

My dh had symptoms - that have since gone away but we are still quarantining - and CVS told us 5-8 days. Their website says 1-2 days. We aren’t traveling but just want answers. It is awful. No rapid tests to be found in our area unless you are a medical pro.
