No she had her first kid earlier than that. He had special needs and died of a seizure I believe.

Fair thought. I also wondered that about Elizabeth Edwards (former VP candidate’s wife) when she got virulent breast cancer following two pregnancies in her late 40s/early 50s.

First thing that came to mind here too - Kelly’s super late pregnancy at 48 and Elizabeth Edwards. It is so awful and unfair. I think they (science) will establish a link between advanced maternal age plus hormonal treatments plus breast cancer. Ugh.

It's also not uncommon for women in their late 40's/ 50s to start taking HRT which is also a contributor to breast cancer. We don't know if these women were on some type of menopausal hormone therapy.

I don't think the link is age per se. The problem is to have a kid that late in life, you probably have to undergo a lot of medical intervention.

It actually is both: age and hormones.

Pregnancy gives your body a break for 10 months (plus breastfeeding). Google it.

The articles also indicate that ivf treatment includes a mammogram (presumably because of the link), so cancer is often detected earlier.

It reduces your chances of ovarian cancer, as does being on birth control pills. It has to do with less ovulation.

IVF has been linked to a potential increase in breast cancer--due to all of the hormones.

This is sad. Breast cancer has been on the rise for decades. IVF could have been a factor but so could many things.
I have BC. I do not drink, smoke, no family history, I am not overweight, I eat healthy, I had children before 30, and I breast fed them. The one thing that I believe caused my BC is BCP prior to my first child. The risk is downplayed for many reasons. The truth is women are at a higher risk if taking them for 5 years. I believe BCP are the number one cause for the higher rates in younger women.
I have no idea what caused Kelly’s cancer but I am sad for her family. BC is out of control and the treatments are not good.

That said, I know women with breast and ovarian cancer who'd led very healthy lifestyles before being diagnosed.. fate can sometimes be cruel.
