OP here, and no, this is not the same thing. JFC is an affront to Christians. It is deliberately taking the name of Jesus Christ in vain. Yes, I consider it offensive.

Oh FFS. I am Jewish and say JFC a lot - and I can tell you I have never once said it because it's "titillating" to irritate Christians. It's just a common phrase that expresses that you are vehemently shaking your head at something.

Thanks for confirming what we already know--this is a thing used by non-Christians against Christians. Find another phrase to express your vehement head-shakes, because this is offensive. What if MFT for mazel tov became popular. Offensive, right?

I see. So you are a hateful bigot and the only thing stopping you from expressing it is that you feel it is socially unpopular to do so.

Thanks for shedding some light into the mind of a persecuted Christian.

Isn't it time to be back out protesting against Satanic mask-wearing ordinances or something?

Wait, what? You said you're Jewish. You confirmed what somebody else up-thread (not me) said about non-Christians loving on this phrase.

And the bigot is the one who claims all Christians are out protesting against Satanic mask-wearing ordinances. That would be you, bigot.

Get a grip on yourself.

you think only non-Christian people say JFC and they do it purposefully to persecute Christian?

I think a lot of former Catholics use it. There is a lot of Catholic hatred on this forum.

Interesting. I’m a liberal atheist and I detest the use of JFC, because it seems it would be hurtful to many people. Similarly, I don’t use religious-themed epithets, though, again, I’m an atheist.

It’s impossible to avoid in particular threads, since people can write it anywhere. It doesn’t offend me personally, but it bothers me anyway.

However, Jeff has spoken, and I respect his perspective.

+1. I’m not Catholic (mainline Protestant) but this is clearly a way of insulting Catholics (for some) and Christians in general (for others) while remaining below DCUM’s radar.

I never heard of it before I found this forum. Since it has curse words in the phrase I'd consider it pretty low class
even apart from the religious aspect.
Anonymous
I understand why people would find it offensive, but really don’t think anyone is using it to purposefully offend Christians.
Anonymous
If it was a Muslim bashing phrase or Jewish bashing phrase it would be banned.

Why is JFC more offensive to Catholic people?

Oh yeah, because Christians are so persecuted

How is JFC “Christian bashing”?

Wasn’t Jesus Jewish?

I wasn't anti-Christian but I feel increasingly more so after this thread.

FFS. Boy you wouldn't last a day out in the world not being a white Christian.

Anonymous wrote:I'm a Christian and understand why you might find it offensive, but I think trying to get the moderator to ban it is over the top. You need to develop a thicker skin or avoid threads where it is used. This is a forum for people of all walks and you have to be more tolerant of others who don't have your sensibilities. If you get to request a ban because you find that offensive, why can't other people ban things that you say because they find them offensive?

So you understand why some people find it offensive, but it’s too much to ban it? So why can’t I say the N word? Or f*g? I know those words offend some people but I’m not black or gay so I should be able to use them, correct? And if you don’t like it just avoid the threads that use those words.

If you can’t tell the difference between JFC and the n word maybe you should stay off the internet

They both are offensive to a large group of people. What else is there to know?

+1. They are both intended to incite, annoy and otherwise antagonize others who are different from oneself.

+2. The people pretending they don't think of another religious group are lying. Why not use WTF instead.

Wait - do you truly believe we are thinking about Christians when we say JFC? You honestly believe that?

Wow, so you're not only crazy but incredibly self-centered. No. Really, not thinking about you. It's just a phrase. I don't think of you when I say damn either.

OP here. It doesn't matter what your intentions are, and if you're thinking about Christians or not. We're explaining to you that the term is offensive to many of us. We are asking you, as a civilized member of the human race who lives in community with people not like yourself, not to use it. Can you get out of yourself and do that, for the betterment of all?

Because all Christians are white...not. You were always a bigot, but now it’s hard to tell which kind, probably both.

I'd say OMG but I feel like you're going to freak out at that, too
