Would you consider banning the term JFC?

Consider this, Jeff: What if the expletive involved a non-Christian deity, such as G-D, or Allah. It would be offensive to the people who observe that religion.

That ought to be your litmus test.

I have used it on occasion (I actually wonder if there is a single “JFC” poster). I will reconsider using it but I have to disagree that I use it for the titillation of insulting Christianity. Christians have been swearing with religiously significant phrases as long as there has been Christianity.

Are we going to ban “zounds” too?!

Yeah, we get that there have been words like zounds forever, but that's precisely because nobody wanted to say "God" direction.

That's pretty different from dropping the f-bomb in the middle of a key religious figure's name, and them you can't be bothered to type out the whole phrase but everybody says it to themselves. Don't pretend you don't know this.

You need to develop a thicker skin or avoid threads where it is used. This is a forum for people of all walks and you have to be more tolerant of others who don't have your sensibilities. If you get to request a ban because you find that offensive, why can't other people ban things that you say because they find them offensive?

Great! So, if I come up with a phrase that mocks Allah or BLM or something else everyone considers above reproach, we're all OK with that, right?

I'm thinking "pbfuh" is the next cool phrase for non-adherents to use.

Mocking the dominant religion is not the same thing as mocking a minority religion, even if the “all lives matter” crowd refuses to admit it. When you are a member of a culturally dominant group, yes, you may have to swallow an insult or two. Consider it the price that you pay for having everything your way all the rest of the time. If we start censoring what goes against the dominant religion, it’s a short hop to theocracy. And gosh knows we’re already rushing in that direction quickly enough.

I'm not in the "all lives matter" crowd and I think you and your distinction are full of it (said ironically).

OP here, and no, this is not the same thing. JFC is an affront to Christians. It is deliberately taking the name of Jesus Christ in vain. Yes, I consider it offensive.

Oh FFS. I am Jewish and say JFC a lot - and I can tell you I have never once said it because it's "titillating" to irritate Christians. It's just a common phrase that expresses that you are vehemently shaking your head at something.

Thanks for confirming what we already know--this is a thing used by non-Christians against Christians. Find another phrase to express your vehement head-shakes, because this is offensive. What if MFT for mazel tov became popular. Offensive, right?

DP. Get a grip on yourself. You're obviously a mocker who wants to be able to keep doing this. Jerk.

I see. So you are a hateful bigot and the only thing stopping you from expressing it is that you feel it is socially unpopular to do so.

Thanks for shedding some light into the mind of a persecuted Christian.

Isn't it time to be back out protesting against Satanic mask-wearing ordinances or something?

OP here, and this is exactly how I feel.

I just read Jeff's "decision," which I have to go along with if I want to participate in DCUM, even though I disagree with it. Just know that I - and others - will continue to be offended when I see this expression. But, I guess that's the point for many of you.

How in the world do you get "hateful bigot" out of this? Are you the type that will complain racism if I order strawberry ice cream instead of chocolate?

What "entitlement and delusion?" Can't anyone see that mocking and vulgarizing ANY religion - Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, even atheism, is wrong and offensive?
