Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman divorcing

I saw that, and I also saw how she left it vague.

I'm no Gaiman apologist, and have no real skin in this game, but there are some other folks on Twitter (who are in a position to know) suggesting the situation is WAY more complicated and that Palmer's trying to get sympathy and sweet Patreon bucks by hinting at bad behavior by Gaiman but leaving it vague enough that she can claim to have never said it.

Yes definitely this. YES. She is motivated by revenge/manipulation and donated money for sure.
Gaiman, for all this genius, was so dumb to ever get tangled up with her. I don't defend him in this - or any of his 20-something-lit-girl-banging, blerg -- and everyone saw this coming with Amanda.

To take a left turn, Shadow is totally the idealized version of Neil. But Neil is more of a Fat Charlie (albeit not fat).

And Amanda is NOT a Laura!

They were in the Boston area when I was in college in the early 2000s. But she's from Boston, so I don't know if she was as well known in other places.

I don't think she would have been played much on the radio. To PP: Google 'Coin Operated Boy.' If you never heard that one, you never heard Dresden Dolls.

I first heard "Coin Operated Boy" on college radio

What in the world happened in the first few pages that caused all of the deletions?

Debates about whether he's famous and discussions of the kid, IIRC. Can definitely see not wanting the boy to be able to find this, ever. (I assume he's not online at 4)

All I remember is her posting half naked photos of her son on IG and people defending it saying if you find an issue with it you’re a pedo.

People always blame the woman.

Look how they blamed Jennifer Aniston for Brad leaving.

And, the MEN always get a pass.

It sounds like he cheated on her and had a drug problem. No matter what her personality is like, it is always wrong for a married partner to cheat.

And open marriages?? WTF? Somebody will always fall in love eventually with whomever they begin to screw. It's the riskiest arrangement ever for a married couple that wants to protect their marriage.

I’m not blaming her. But I still think she had BPD and a higher self estimation of her talent than merited.

You can’t cheat in an open marriage.

That's a silly statement. Pretty sure most open marriages have rules that couples stick by and aren't just a free-for-all in terms of getting involved/sleeping with others.

Good luck enforcing rules when you've already said you’re ok with your husband banging other people. Rule #1 of marriage has already been broken.

Im not poly, but I don’t think that’s how it works. Some couples manage to do this in a healthy way. It takes a ton of communication, emotional honesty, self awareness, self assessment, and vulnerability. Most of us aren’t equipped to do this well or put in the work. It’s something that’s easier to think about (and judge), than practice.

Also not poly, but I agree. However, in this case, the way they explained their open marriage made it seem like, indeed, a free for all.

Not poly either, but I have a good friend who has been married for about 15 years and she and her husband have opened up the marriage a few times. They always had iron-clad rules about who and how and where they saw other people. If one person was on a dating site, they disclosed they were married and already had a primary partner. If sex with others was going to happen, it was not spontaneous and was disclosed. If one person became uncomfortable, the secondary relationship was discontinued and/or the marriage closed back up. They are still happily married (marriage currently closed).

Gosh that made me laugh, thank you.
