because the dose is much much lower as it's directly targeted at the ovaries (i think). |
I am the poster you are addressing, and I am the women. I don't hate women. This does not negate my statement that some women just an idiots and should not reproduce, therefore they should take their pills. Regularly. |
None of the Pharma companies going to invest in that. They want you to be hooked on pills. Ovulation test that you suggest would not have any negative effect on your health, therefore, you won't be back for treating side effects like with BC. No hope there. |
Mirena has progestin only. Progesterone is also in most birth control pills and is what most people link to low libido and mood swings. I haven’t had any of that with Mirena but definitely had it on the pill. My periods on Mirena are nearly non existent and I had heavy periods when not on anything. YMMV. -DP |
I didn’t say you hate women and I’m actually agreeing with you. Fewer idiots should reproduce. Let’s start with the GOP. Knock out a solid chuck of idiots AND women haters. Good idea, no? |
Cheap ovulation test strips already exist - they don’t prevent pregnancy because the hormones you need to detect are only high enough just before ovulation which is significantly less time than sperm live inside the female reproductive organs. If you are serious about preventing, you basically can only have sex after ovulation is confirmed. Case in point - I’m pregnant (planned) from sex 5-7 days before I ovulated and 5-6 days before a positive ovulation test. |
The testing is not that exact, and sperm live longer than the warning window of impending ovulation that testing offers. Also, please, let’s not forget that nature has a way of making us want to have sex in the days leading up to ovulation. If someone looked closely enough, I think you’d find a pattern of more risk-taking behavior related to sex in the lead up to ovulation. Our sex drives literally override our logical behavior. |
Yes, we are biologically programmed to procreate. Sex feels great and in the moment many people won’t make good choices. Which is why LARCs are even better than BCPs...but BCPs paved the way towards reliable contraceptives for women and empowered them to take control of their bodies. |
| Another hands up for the IUD!!!! I got married at 22 and had my IUD put in... we got it out 6 years later and pregnant within 2 months. A perfect mode of contraception. |
| I love BCP. It was a game changer for me. I went from heavy periods with 8-10 days of “flow,” and horrible cramps and digestive issues, to 5 days of medium flow, manageable cramps, and no more being in the bathroom for hours at a time. They really improved my life. Yes NFP/fertility awareness when practiced correctly will prevent against pregnancy, but lots of us suffer menstrual symptoms that just aren’t compatible with everyday life. Especially teens and young adults. |
you're assuming women's 'health' is better without BC. For me, it's not. I have a mental health issue that's tied to my cycle. My health is much better because of BC. |
Humans, however, are supposed to have the ability to reason, and consider the consequences of their behavior. Animals, not so much. |
Well, horny humans are pretty much animals so...thank god for contraception! |
YES!! As others have mentioned, taking control of our fertility is remarkable. It's the #1 key to a woman's/family's economic success. |
| I LOVED birth control pills. For me, they worked great and were easy. And thank you, Planned Parenthood, for helping me get them when I was young. |
