Help! Baby is three days old and we can’t agree on a name

Anonymous
Your hubby definitely sounds like Aspie and that list and his inflexibility seems to confirm rigidity of his choices and lack of compromise. What he is displaying is lack of ability to see the future consequences that the names will have on a child.

Just tell him that name is forever and a child needs to be comfortable with it and accepted by peers not ridiculed.
Go one by one and also point to the fact that this name will also will be the thing that will in a way affect his success in life.
People who hire people for one react differently to different names.

It will be great to take a kid with name like this to a next Geek convention but have the kid go to the third grade and that is a game changer..
Zephyr
Icarus
Ignatius
Atlas
Orion
Odysseus

Imagine all the teasing.. going on.

Also how, he will ever feel when the kid will be applying for a job or running for the office with the name like Atlas or Zephyr.

He needs to think long run.

OP, pull a rank here. Your names are great. Try to negotiate, tell him he will choose the stroller color.

But I’d go with Constantine and call him Dino. His list is terrible.

Ignatius could also use Nate as a nickname.

Loyola comes to mind.. and you can imagine the rest.

Yep, you tell him, this baby I gave birth to so I am naming him, you give the birth to the next one, you name him.

I have no idea what you’re talking about...

Also, Zephyr is a girl’s name. See Zephyr Teachout. That name alone cost her at least 10 points in New York’s gubernatorial primaries.

Since he has just one baby and is only picking one of them why would that matter?

I had Alexa and Alexandra both on my short list. As long as I didn’t pick both why would that be an issue?

I like the Hadrian suggestion.

What about Conrad? It’s between Connor and Constantine.

The two names on his list that are not ridiculous are Constantine and Casimir. I kind of like Casimir, or Caz for short.

Anonymous wrote:I actually really like Ulysses. Seems classic because of the president.

Sure. It's classic because of Pres Grant. Not the Classical mythology part.

My brother is named Ulysses and he’s always loved his name

I just think with the other names on the list he sounds like he just wants to impress people with how wicked smaaat he is. And when people need to try that hard to prove their smarts...how actually smart are they usually?

Icarus dies b.c he doesn't listen to his dad. Hard pass.

I like Ulysses. What about Virgil (to stay with the classical)?

Weird first names are so risky. DH and I both have common first names and unique middle names. It’s perfect. We could choose to use the special name if we wanted, but we both preferred the ease of a first name that everyone knew how to spell and pronounce.

I would go with a Theodore Constantine, if it works with your last name. He has six nickname possibilities, plus the two actual names themselves. ( Teddy, Theo, Ted, Thor, Connor, and Dino). A kid eventually gets the last word. That’s what I would stiess to DH. Both names have lots of flexibility, so the kid can choose which kind of name he would like.
