Trump will appeal to the 2nd circuit.

And lose fast. They are ready for this. Tee up SCOTUS.

I don't think Roberts will let this pass, either they will refuse to hear it or he will side with the US Constitution.

And we will find out if Trump has unlimited power and protection.

I feel strongly that It the “Roberts Court” and Roberts will swing against Trump. He does not want his legacy to be the unlimited power of executive branch, rampant corruption, and the destruction of the separation of powers. He’s conservative. But old school, Bush style, which is not this. I bet— by a lot— that 3rd Circuit moves it fast and SCOTUS denies cert. trump has little legal merit and not real issues of law. He just doesn’t want to. Which isn’t a great legal argument.

And events on the ground mean everyone wants this to move fast. Like when they are seeking a stay of execution. They are on the clock.

And let’s see what bought and paid for Brett rules.

He’ll do what Trump paid him to do. It doesn’t matter. Roberts will never let this become his legacy.

This is a Trojan horse way of deciding once and for all whether a president is above the law. Bring it on.

We all know Trump’s business deals are shady AF. Unless there is clear evidence of outright criminality, this is stupid on this part. Whatever he’s hiding could be outrageous for a day and everyone moves on. He’s making it a bigger deal than it needs to be and drawing attention to it.

It makes me think there real is criminal activity tucked away in there.

+1. Nixon wasn’t and Trump isn’t. And you know that Roberts may be with Trump on social issues, but hates this outright corruption.

Nixon has to give up the taps. Clinton had to testify. Trump will have to give up his taxes. This is settled law. But I hope the make the ruling fast, broad and loud.

What do people guess on when SCOTUS will act on this appeal?

What in the world do you think could be in these taxes that Trump is so desperate to keep hidden?

Not sure about actual dates, but i’m to bet there are four justices willing to grant cert so it will be heard. Then 5-4 against Trump.

That's what I wonder. So he's actually broke? Is that worth all of this? Is there something else in there?

We know how the bought one will vote. There are 3 others who will agree that POTUS should be untouchable?

There isn't a "bought one". They're all lifers.

It’s understandably confusing because there are so many different things going on with his taxes.

This thread involves a subpoena by the Manhattan district attorney who wants to see Trump’s taxes because they’ve been investigating and think there are illegal things going on in them. I think there is also a similar, separate investigation going on by the New York State Attorney General.

You are correct that it’s only tradition that calls for presidential candidates to release their tax returns, not a law.

There is a federal law, however, that if the head of the House’s Ways & Means committee asks to see someone’s - anyone’s - tax returns, the IRS shall turn them over. Rep. Neal has requested them and Mnuchin said no. There is separate litigation going on over that.

There is also a federal law that says that the tax returns of the president and vice president need to be audited by the IRS. There is a whistleblower in the IRS who has come forward with a complaint to the Treasury IG that says that someone in the IRS is interfering in that process.

There is also a tradition, not a law AFAIK, that current presidents release their tax returns, once audited, for the years when they are in office. That obviously is not happening.

Hope this helps!
