Any good games at the tournament? The weather has been nice.

We have not seen any great games, but it sure is nice to be at the Soccerplex. Every time I go there I am grateful that we have all those fields available to us.

you gonna cry every time your team plays up on purpose? seems you have no confidence in your kid or team. cuz if so, find another sport because it will be a regular thing (unless youre on a lower team)

I agree. I would be more disappointed if my U12 plays against U11 teams.

Wow BSC u12 girls did not get out of the bracket? Looks like they did okay against the u11.

Yeah. Very surprised that they didn’t easily win this.

Would it matter to you if I told you their competition played a very physically aggressive, defensive style, grouping all of their defenders in the middle, and had about no attacking game at all?

I would tell the Bethesda parents to breathe easy: They were clearly the more disciplined, skilled group on the pitch. They had one error and it turned into a PK goal, which happens at the highest levels, too. The dominated possession and played well. There are plenty of wins in their future.

It doesn’t matter to me one way or another. I just expected them be dominant as some posters mentioned that their current coach took the best players from his former team (MRM) and the best players of BSC Blue.

As a BRYC parent, I thought the Bethesda team was the best one in the bracket. They have some fast, skilled girls and played a great game. They beat us solidly. I was surprised they lost to Mount Airy.

Isn’t your DD’s team a U11 team though?

If they are a u12 playing u11, yes they should be the better team. In big clubs the u littles girls(u12 and below) top team will play the 2nd team a year up and get crushed.

Meanwhile at the OBGC tournament in the top bracket, the top u12 girls teams in Maryland-Baltimore Celtic SC Shamrocks, Maryland United FC 2008 ECNL, Baltimore Union SC Elite 08, SAC Premier Blue, Harford FC United and SYC Pride 08 Blue played each other- Baltimore Union winning the group. BSC lost to a team that most likely would have been in the third or fourth bracket of the OBGC. No offense to the Mount Airy Youth Athletic but BSC top team should have easily beaten them.
BSC wants to play the top bracket at Jeff Cup, not the 5th, 6th or 7th bracket. There is a huge difference between the top bracket and the 5th or 6th bracket at the Jeff Cup. Playing a tournament like this does nothing for BSC and losing really hurts you.

In all fairness, we don't know if BSC's 2008 Blue team had all of their key players for this tournament. It being a Labor Day weekend, some or most of their key players might be out of town. Also, it being a pre-season, with a new coach and new players, they might need time to jell. Let's see how they do during the season before we start bashing them. PS: I'm not a BSC parent.

Which coach would you be referring to from MRM? Layton? He wasnt coaching the U11s last year at Rush.

That Mt Airy team is also apparently a big group that left FC Frederick. Dont be fooled by the "Mt Airy" name.

Mt Airy also beat a much more skilled and dominant MSI team in the finals. Same defensive game, PKs to win it. It happens at every level, and while it's disappointing for BSC, I don't think it means anything earth-shattering about their team or the club. But it's good info for Bethesda (and MSI) ahead of the season, and both teams could be better at breaking down tough defenses.

Help me understand something …

The Maryland United FC 2008 ECNL (U12) **was** the Maryland United FC 2008 Red (U11), correct? And, now, Maryland United FC 2008 Red (U12) was Maryland United FC 2008 White (U11).

The wonderful GotSoccer website has Maryland United FC 2008 Red in the top bracket at OBGC, but that's actually the ECNL team … I think:

ECNL (was/is Red) in Premier flight: http://home.gotsoccer.com/rankings/event.aspx?EventID=69664&GroupID=787420

Red (was/is White) in Elite flight: http://home.gotsoccer.com/rankings/event.aspx?EventID=69664&GroupID=787421

Jumping forward to the fall EDP season, I don't see the ECNL team fielded anywhere (they were in the top EDP division while U11). The new Red/old White is in the 4th EDP division this fall:

http://events.gotsport.com/events/schedule.aspx?EventID=73629&ApplicationID=5434515

Full Maryland United FC team list for EDP (only one U12 team and no U13 or U14 teams): http://maps.gotsport.com/clubsite/LeagueDir.aspx?EventID=73629&ClubDirectorID=179

Where will the real ECNL/Red team play this fall? (I have the same question for Bethesda Blue, which doesn't appear in any area league, as far as I can tell.) Neither team is listed in the USYS league either.

How can there be an "ECNL" U12 team, when ECNL doesn't start until U13?

It is just a team name. Often clubs will call them "Pre" DA or ECNL. They likely forgot the Pre part. Nothing to really question when all it really means that it is their U12 A team.
