What’s wrong with Lena Dunham?

If someone is bipolar, you’ll see the other pole. We never see that. It’s non-stop mania. That’s something else.

Keep in mind that we only see her when she is out in public. She could be holing up in her house during the downswings.

I have a bipolar friend who does this. She's on meds, but still experiences her low periods, and when they come, she stays home in bed. If you judged her only by when you observed her in public, you would think she was quirkily upbeat.

I bet it's the same for Lena. I hope she gets the help she needs.

Yes she seems annoying, but I think the hate directed towards her is out of proportion to her personality, and is because we as a society like our women to be pretty, thin, and rule followers. She breaks a lot of rules for women, and it’s clear that we are so tribal and are trying to kick her out. She doesn’t belong, she’s not pretty enough, she’s too fat. You all sound so high school-ish, and hate her for having the audacity to think that someone like her, fat and not beautiful, could actually make it to the top. I personally wish there were more people like her, not exactly like her, but sort of like her, out there trying to break the rules for girls, so we have more than Jennifer Aniston as a role model.

Hey, I love Jennifer Aniston... but I agree with you about Lena. I think she is hardworking, talented, and smart. I read her book and the incident with her sister did not read to me like sexual molestation at all, and I’m very sensitive to that. She is hated because she does not behave as people expect female celebrities to behave.

That said, she does have mental illness, and kissing Brad Pitt like that, if uninvited, is not at all appropriate.

Mental disorder, propped up throughout adult life because of her parents.

And her sister is a lesbian. But I guess Lena lacks the self awareness to draw possible connection between early sexual trauma like that and sexual preference.

She was raised by parents who didn't parent.

Please tell me that you aren’t suggesting that Lena Dunham turned her sister into a lesbian. That is not how sexual orientation works.

Cyrus Grace is gender fluid now. I don't think earlier sexual trauma necessarily affects people's sexual orientation or gender identity. Even CG says she doesn't consider it abuse. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lena-dunhams-sister-slams-allegations-745937

But what Lena did is seriously f'd up, and it's a direct line to her being a dirtbag adult.

Tell me how she made it in this business! I just don't get it.

She made it in the business they same way a lot of kids who have high profile, connected parents do. Not only did she have her parents’ circle to tap into, but her own; other rich NYC kids with their own connected parents. She’s clearly willing to push for what she wants, has plenty of resources, and isn’t stupid.

The concept for Girls was a proven one- most modern generations have their version of a Friends type series or film that taps into pop culture and feels new, even if it really isn’t. She was able to add edgier elements thanks to HBO hosting the series.

It's a genuinely good show, though she seems like a genuinely disturbed person

I agree that she's hardworking and smart. I don't agree that she gets hate because she's not pretty enough. There are PLENTY of well-respected actresses who aren't traditionally attractive. Her behavior is what turns people off - the constant nudity, etc.

Or maybe there is zero evidence that being one opposite ends of a Kinsey scale has anything to do with adult sexual preference. I mean there are scores straight dudes in and around the Boston metro sexually molested as boys, an epidemic even

Yes, they were quite young. Lena was 7 and Grace was 1. Apparently Lena had just had a conversation with her mother and having a vagina and so she was curious about Grace's

My sibling and I are that far apart and I never thought curious meant let’s penetrate the baby’s private parts and see what happens.

+1

Very screwed up

Agree- what the hell?? How had I never heard this story? Weird af

Yeah this lesbian thinks the comment is and I assume my also no-sexual-trauma wife would agree
