You two are the best! I will be spending 3 months in Europe and I was thinking of ways to bring Similac there... I guess I will try those SUPERIOR formulas over there |
| My babies were mostly breastfed, but I did use formula occasionally as a supplement. I just bought Parent's Choice at Walmart. My concern with the European formulas would be the long distances they are shipped. Possible exposure to Extremes in the weather and who knows how long they sit in a container. |
This is a good point pp. I used Holle with my first because a friend really liked it. I was exhausted and didn't give it much thought. I will try American brands with my second. |

For me and my baby, the main benefits are:
1. European formulas are subject to stricter organic farming practices. All European formulas use milk from cows that are both organic and grass fed. In the US it’s either organic OR grass fed. With a European formula you always get both. 2. “European cow’s milk formulas with intact proteins (which is most formulas) cannot have any sucrose at all! ...//... The FDA doesn’t have any such requirements – regarding sucrose, or %lactose. Lots of the “sensitive” formulas in the US would violate this %lactose rule, and Similac Sensitive and most US soy formulas would also violate the sucrose rule. 3. European formulas are more conservative with additives. Locust gum, guar gum, pectins, fructans (like inulin), and carrageenan are not allowed in European formulas. The FDA has no such requirements. In addition the HiPP UK version made my baby’s poop like breastfeeding poop again and we have never had problems with constipation. |
