I can say with confidence that school systems want role models. White females need not apply any longer - at least in my former system. My friend, who's 100% Italian and very olive-complected, was hired b/c her principal thought she was Hispanic. She has not corrected her for fear he'd eventually target her. no lie And yes, MCPS went to PR to recruit Spanish-speaking teachers b/c of the growing Hispanic community. It is what it is, I suppose! |
No. |
MCPS went to PR to recruit Spanish-speaking teachers because dual language immersion programs (or two-way immersion programs as MCPS likes to call them) require teachers who are trained to teach reading and writing development in Spanish. This more or less requires teachers who received their training in Spanish-language environments. It's not just that they are looking for bilingual teachers. They are looking for teachers with training and experience teaching kids who do not know how to read to read in Spanish as opposed to teaching kids who already know how to read/write English to also read/write Spanish. |
Absolutely. We’re undocumented, so skies the limit! |
Yes it actually is. MCPS wants to close the achievement gap in any way possible. It’s ridiculous and misguided. |
Maybe not, but they do lump them together when looking at ‘equity outcomes’. |
Thank goodness everyone gets an A or a B. I think a jack smith is in to something here: the Achievement Gap will be nil very soon! Graduation rates will skyrocket, evidence of learning will proliferate, “academic progress” will be stellar, and “limited English proficiency” will be what it will be given the nonstop influx of illegals. |
| MCPS can always start doing what the SE DCPS did: graduate kids with 40% truancy, cheat on tracking tests, change grades of poorly performing students. Then get caught and a slap on the wrist. |
With scores like what I saw popping up it looks like teachers are going to be under a lot of pressure to get FARMs and URMs testing well in math and English. I’m not so sure this is a school or teacher problem to solve though. They are already doing a ton for these focus groups, way more than for other segments of students. |
+1 This is not true. |
What about men? At my DD MCPS elementary school, every teacher and administrator is female. The only men are the building maintenance staff. Guess MCPS doesnt' care about gender diversity. |
Also not true. Indian students are classified as Asian and separate from white students. |
NP. What's wrong with lumping them (high income whites and South/East Asians) together in this context? -Indian American parent |
That's up to your prinicpal. Our MCPS elementary school has several male teachers and administrators. |
