Prep, Landon, Gonzaga, St. Albans, Bullis

Not to mention, the statement that "STA's facilities as part of the Cathedral close are unparalleled" is completely inaccurate as well. Have you have been to Prep? They have, by far, the best facilities and campus in this area.

Of course you did. Bullis loves new money.

Nice try. But wrong. Bullis was where I attended, almost 30 years ago.

This, entirely. There is a coordinated effort to trash Bullis on DCUM, and to elevate STA, NCS, Maret, and Sidwell. If your child does not attend one of these four schools or end up in an Ivy League school, your kid is a dunce and should expect to be a failure in life, clearly.

As someone has stated already, the acceptances and matriculations for Bullis are impressive, and they are on their website (see below). Objective fact. If you think that only Ivy League schools are worth anything (and many Bullis kids get into Ivy Leagues - another objective fact), then of course, Bullis is a waste of time. The fact that a school has spots (already an erroneous conclusion) doesn’t mean that it’s not a good school - what a stupid assumption.

This seems so far fetched — coordinated effort? Bullis is a great school with a lot to recommend it! If your kids are happy there, who on earth cares what this board says? Literally, nothing is gained by winning DCUM. Saying that, please don’t trash other schools either. Sidwell, Cathedral schools, GDS etc all have things to recommend them too. We are all presumably too old for the “he was mean to me so I can be a jerk back” defense.

This thread was about academics. Period. I thought people were trying to provide helpful info to the OP about academics — the OP admits he/she is singularly focused on academics, not facilities, outplacement, sports etc.

Can’t people be civil on the internet? Maybe it is time to lock this thread please.

It may have intended to be about academics but it fell to the prestige-whores who hate Bullis. Plus, the comparison of Bullis with a bunch of single sex schools is a bit specious, no?

OP, DCUM lives inside its own head, rocking in a corner. Do your own research.

Surprised they didn’t like Landon which has a Bethesda address

Bullis is a joke of a school. They are so desperate for applicants that they even spammed the summer camp registrants last year and asked them to consider applying.

my child doesn't attend Bullis but we did visit--depending on your child, it really does have almost everything you could want from a program. I think it's reputation as low tier is unfair and feel that size and it's ability to accept more applicant makes parents feel like it's lees exclusive and less competitive.

If you are so secure with who you are and where your child goes to school, why feel the need to put another school down? Perhaps embrace the fact that we have a choice and point out what’s good about the school as well as the negatives, because there are pros and cons to all schools in this area.

Can I assume everyone who is hating on Bullis had a child who went there and they didn’t like it? If not, I am curious where your child goes to school...

There are personal issues that are coming through in these opinions on the DCUM, clearly. I would say almost nobody makes such important decisions based on anonymous opinions online. Those of us with kids at Bullis or who have kids who will be attending have our eyes wide open.

People love to wave the Niche and Great Schools rankings around - except those for Bullis (#8 for 2019), which obviously must be wildly inaccurate. The college acceptance list is stellar and public for all to see. The facilities are unrivaled. Yet, the school is a “joke,” “useless,” you name it. Just ignore the noise. It is what it is on this board - the “big 3” are good, everything else is mediocre and not worth applying. Whatever LOL

Bullis college matriculations are pretty embarrassing and not even on the same league as the big 3 or even GDS.

Not everyone is worried about how prestigious the college that their children go to is. Some people just want their kids to do their best, be happy, and go to a school that helps them achieve their goals. To make fun of a school because not all of the kids head to an Ivy speaks to who you are as a person. I hope that you are aware of how you are coming across. Can you enlighten us and let us know what school your child goes to? Those that talk smack never seem to be willing to let us know what school community they are a part of. Isn’t that interesting?

This is the embodiment of our philosophy and we are not Bullis (nor Big 3) parents. There is no way that the # of Ivy graduates was even part of our children's metric when they were evaluating schools. As parents, our priority is that our children grow to be strong, confident and happy adults.
