Private & Independent Schools
| Readers of Bethesda magazine aren’t consumers of private school educations by and large. So by all means, follow the advice of the uninformed masses. |

Again,
STA Prep Landon Gonzaga Bullis |
|
All these people who are putting Bullis down are acting just like the people they claim Bullis is full of. I’m not sure why there is such hate. If you are so secure with who you are and where your child goes to school, why feel the need to put another school down? Perhaps embrace the fact that we have a choice and point out what’s good about the school as well as the negatives, because there are pros and cons to all schools in this area.
Can I assume everyone who is hating on Bullis had a child who went there and they didn’t like it? If not, I am curious where your child goes to school... |
| I don’t think Bullis is on the same level as STA or Landon or Prep but it is definitely on the upswing. I believe more and more families are taking a look so maybe in a few years it will have same level of academics because you need a few years to get more academic kids there. The campus is pretty amazing and their new facilities are also pretty cool. I would have considered Bullis as a back up to Potomac if I wanted coed. |
| Like it or not, all of these schools are in the same range in that they offer a sufficient platform for any motivated student to do as well as they want to. |
Again, Landon easily beats GP academically |

Regarding Bethesda Magazine - you do realize that it did not do an objective study of the high schools, right?? It was a poll. Bullis probably asked their constituents to vote. Other schools may not have stooped to that (ridiculous) request. When there is an extremely high level of criticism about any place it is worth considering. "Where there is smoke there is fire" is hard to dismiss.

I would switch Gonzaga and Prep. |
| HAAAHAAAA! |
| I don't have a dog in this fight but I always thought that Gonzaga was considered to be the top of the heap. At least that's what you would think by what the folks here in CC MD say. |
Bullis is a joke of a school. They are so desperate for applicants that they even spammed the summer camp registrants last year and asked them to consider applying. |
I guess Harvard and Yale are jokes, too, since they spammed my DS with application requests--and he's not even close to Harvard/Yale grades. We've never gone to a summer that didnt do this. |
Uh, that’s just good marketing. I’ve worked at several independent scoops and it’s common practice. Why wouldn’t you invite people who already have experience on your campus to take a closer look? You’re really reaching for an insult. |
Perhaps for Catholics but overall.....not even close. |
I don't know, the tone of the note was pretty desperate in my opinion. Both of my kids have been doing camps there for numerous years, and this is a first. I think their applications are way down and hence they are reaching out. My kids have done camps at many other independent schools, and I have never been contacted by admissions. Colleges are different because they are always trying to get their applications up so their acceptance rates can be lowered. Here's the note I received last July: Dear Families, Could the tired, happy child at your dinner table each night benefit from a year-round Bullis education? As your children try new things, learn, grow, and make friends this summer, we are delighted to be spending time with them through Bullis Summer Programs. If you think Bullis might make a good academic home for your child, we’d love to talk it over with you. We serve girls and boys from Kindergarten through high school, and we spend every day creating a challenging, caring school community for students. We will accept late applications for review at select grade levels where space is available for the 2018-2019 school year. Contact us at admission@bullis.org or 301-983-5724. Our admission office is always available. Our parent ambassadors are always eager to share about their Bullis experience. And we would be delighted give you a tour or discuss how Bullis could offer your child opportunities to grow, learn and make friends year-round. We invite you to stop by the admission office, email us at admission@bullis.org, or call 301-983-5724. We look forward to sharing our ideas about how to provide your child with the best possible education and opportunities at Bullis. Sincerely, The Bullis Admissions Team |
