In the case of applying as a crew athlete when the student didn't even participate in crew, wouldn't that be fraudulent on the student's part? Maybe not bad enough to get thrown in the slammer but certainly bad enough to be booted out. |
Some of these were even more recent!!! O.O Defendant JANE BUCKINGHAM is a residentof Los Angeles, California. BUCKINGHAM is chief executive officer (“CEO”) of a boutique marketing company based in Los Angeles.33.In or about June 2018, BUCKINGHAM agreed to make a purported charitable donation of $50,000to KWF,in exchange for which CW-1arranged to have CW-2take the ACT on behalf of BUCKINGHAM’s son at the Houston Test Center the following month. 1634.Thereafter, CW-1 made arrangements with Williams to to allow CW-2 to purport to proctor the ACT for BUCKINGHAM’s son.In return,CW-1promised Williamsthat he would send her money to “go on vacation.”35. In a call with BUCKINGHAM on or about July 10, 2018, CW-1explained, in substance, that CW-2would not require all of the extended time BUCKINGHAM’s son had been granted to take the ACT.The following is an excerpt from the conversation, which was intercepted pursuant to a Court-authorized wiretap. Well that Penn kid whose dad is in trouble for fraud is still at Wharton so I doubt anything happens to these kids... |
Yeppers. This is why I don't support the Harvard lawsuit. When wealthy parents use all means at their disposal to gain entry to competitive schools--from private test prep all the way to outright fraud--it's not an even playing field. I'm not saying this sort of outright fraud is commonplace. I just think wealthy families have outsized resources to get their kids into schools--the truly desperate or unscrupulous will cross the line into illegal practices. |
Yep. Some parents paid for the kids ACT/SAT scores which is fraudulent. And some paid for them to be admitted as an athlete on a team they didn't qualify for which is also fraudulent. Some did BOTH. Either way the kids didn't qualify on their own merits and need to get the boot. I feel bad for the Buckingham kid, it's his senior year in high school and he's on social media posting how great his last year is before college. His world just got shattered! |
LA person here- I’m laughing so hard ain’t Becky paid half a million dollars to get her kids into the university of spoiled children. This is amazing. Couldn’t even get into UCLA haaaaa |

The fraud was only discovered while investigating a completely different matter.
Incidental collection. Remember this when Trump claims he was wiretapped. |
Who is the Gordon Ernst from Maryland ? |
Exactly right. To athletes or to anyone else except based on pure, objective, individual merit. |
Well crap - I guess Arizona State Unversity wasn't good enough for Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannuli's little angel. Both daughters are adults now - one is a 18-year-old senior year at high school and another is a freshman at USC (not for long).
![]() 194.Defendants MOSSIMO GIANNULLI and LORI LOUGHLIN(collectively, “the GIANNULLIS”), a married couple, are residents of Los Angeles, California. GIANNULLI is a fashion designer. LOUGHLIN is an actress. 89 195.As set forth below, the GIANNULLIS agreed toa pay bribes totaling $500,000in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team—despite the fact that they did not participate in crew—thereby facilitating their admission to USC. 196.On or about April 22, 2016, GIANNULLI, copying LOUGHLIN, sent an e-mail to CW-1, noting:We just met with [our older daughter’s]college counselor this am. I’d like to maybe sit with you after your session with the girls as I have some concerns and want to fully understand the game plan and make sure we have a roadmap for success as it relates to [our daughter] and getting her into a school other than ASU! 197.CW-1 responded, “If you want [U]SC I have the game plan ready to go into motion. Call me to discuss.” 198.In an e-mail on or about July 24, 2016, CW-1 advised GIANNULLI that his older daughter’s academic qualificationswere at orjust below the “low end” of USC’s admission standards. Thereafter, theGIANNULLIS agreed with CW-1to use bribesto facilitate her admission to USCas a recruited crew coxswain, even though she did not row competitivelyor otherwise participate in crew. |
They were funneled through a "charity." You can't make this up. |
