There are many many social climbers in this town. The people who are clambering to get their kids are those who wish to be associated with the "elite." Keep in mind, this is true of most of the private schools in the area, but it is definitely true about St. Patrick's.

But neither St Pat’s or Chevy are considered elite so that doesn’t really make sense.

Not a Chevy Chase club member or a St Patrick’s parent (yet- we’re accepted and considering), but isn’t that club one of the most elite in the region? I will never be a country club member as I’m middle class and don’t golf, but heck, even I’ve heard of that club as one of the most elite.

It’s not elite. It has become a magnet for the republican crowd and in recent years a lot of social climbers have joined. Congressional is by far the most elite club in the area followed by Columbia.

Those who went today, what did you think? It seemed like a pretty pleasant crowd to me. Tough decisions ahead!

Actually, I completely agree. I was very impressed. Everyone seemed very nice. Tough decisions ahead! Good luck!

I was very impressed too. I tho k we’ve made the decision to attend. The parents I met were really nice and seemed normal and down to earth.

Congressional will let anyone in who can pay the fees. It’s the least elite of the three. The order is Chevy, Columbia then Congressional. And generally, St Pat’s (along with Beauvoir and NPS) are more desirable among the country club set than schools like GDS.

SP current parent here, I am glad you had that impression, there are lots of pleasant families in SP, my two children are happy and thriving. Choosing SP 10 years ago was the best decision for my family, and we are a family not connected, not a CC member, not super rich, we are not even Americans.

Good luck deciding!

Is this a joke? You realize that many of us know many people who have been admitted in the past 10 years or are in the process because they are in our school communities or places of work and I can’t think of a single one admitted that’s elite. Newer money, conservative, and a few mean moms come to mind but elite nope. Btw parents that bully other families and kids severe enough that is has been documented are not elite.

Looking at the 2018 outplacement from their publication, I’m not impressed. Of 34 students, 1 each to sidwell, NCS and St A and 2 to GDS. 1 student to Exeter, which I’ll venture is harder to get into than Big 3. So 6 of 34 8th graders at the very top. That’s worriesome. I would really like to see how 2019 has shaped up.

2018 results:

Sidwell: 1
NCS/STA: 2
Exeter: 1
GDS: 2
Maret: 3
Potomac: 2
Bullis: 4
Landon: 4
Prep: 1
Visi: 1
Madeira: 1
Holy Child: 3
Burke: 1
Episcopal: 1
Westminster ?: 1
Berkshire ?: 1
St Andrews (Delaware):1
Field:1

Call me crazy but this does not look bad. Pp you clearly only have your eye on a few schools. I think it looks as if all schools are represented. Not everyone wants to go to Sidwell FYI.

This is a good mix of schools! As the majority of kids at St. Pat's start in nursery (before testing takes place), it shows that it's a nice well rounded school - which is exactly what I am looking for! It also shows that kids are not pressured into a certain mould or pushed to certain schools. Seeing this helps me make my decision towards attending!

Honestly, I'm not either and I hear 2019 was comparable.
