Yes, one would think. Alas... sheep at CCC and St. Patrick's.

The moms who people are talking about on here who are rich, clueless and/or mean and vacuous, are a small and identifiable group. I know precisely who you are talking about. Just ignor them and find your own friends. They really aren't worth your time or emotions and they usually cannot get their kids into the Cathedral schools, Sidwell, Maret or Potomac and they would never send their kids to GDS (far to progressive for them). You find them mostly at Landon and Holton and Bullis.

yes, i know this crowd too although my kids are now on the older side of things (oldest is 12). Agree that none are at GDS (too progressive) or Sidwell (too academic). A couple are at the Cathedral schools with older kids but this crowd isn't getting in much anymore. Most are at Landon, Holton and surprisingly some Catholic schools.

I have older kids and this group has some older kids. Off the top of my head, from this crowd at St Pats that have had older kids move on, I can think of one family at Sidwell, two or three at STA, one or two at Maret, none at Potomac and none at GDS. There are far more at Holton, Bullis, Landon and, as you mention, more recently some of their kids have headed to various Catholic schools. Those moms are in for a rude awakening at the Catholic schools where their brand of cachet and elitism aren't the going currency.

I thought it was just me that noticed this behavior. These comments are very telling. Yes definitely one of two of the CCC moms you describe need up going on to the Cathedral schools from St. Pats but a few came from elsewhere too (Beauvoir). Agree most go Landon, Holton, and others.

Please you find these type of parents everywhere. They are at Sidwell. They are at all the schools- private or public. They are on the sports team. If you go looking for drama you will find it. The mean girls really like picking on people like....let’s call her the country club poster(CCP). The bigger the reaction and drama the better. If you want to get back at them CCP call them out by name. There are always two sides of a story. Love to hear the other side.

obviously you don't know this particular crowd. Sure, there are mean and exclusive people in any DC private or public. That's not the point of this post.
We're talking about a particular subset that has had a presence at St. Pats for years.

+1 And I may be the CCP (although I'm not sure, there's at least two other posters here posting similarly) and I can promise you, they get no reaction or anything from me. I work full-time, have zero time to give them the time of day (they are quite unpleasant to be around), and they could not care less what I think. But when you're around St. P's as long as we all are, you can't help but identify this crowd. To the PP with the 12-year-old, you are not thinking of the same crowd, as you would be at the tail end, though there are few remaining in the 5th-6th grades (few of them will be found in the middle school at S. P's--for a variety of reasons.) It's true, this crowd went mostly to Bullis, Landon, Holton.

How many 6th or 8th graders going to GDS, Sidwell, or Cathedral schools next year?

Anyone know of any other 8th or 6th graders going to the Cathedral Schools or Sidwell? Only have heard about two more republican Chevy families going to STA. Anyone know where the democratic non-club families end up going?

What grades are the two kids in who are going to sta?

There are just as many Dem families at Chevy. Rich Dem families are the most entitled maybe ever.

So are most of the awful ones gone now? How about the lower grades? Asking for new nursery and preK entry/

If it’s a small and identifiable group from a pretty small school, how are they poisoning every Dc area private except GDS? Not sure snobby moms always have unappealing children from an admissions standpoint.

Anonymous wrote:I'm actually one of the PPs who was a long-time parent and am fairly critical of the school, but I have to say that the poster who posted that list really doesn't understand. What even is the "very top?" For the record, at least one of the Potomac attendees turned down NCS and I know of another who turned down Sidwell for a different school. You are actually the very type of parent that brings down places like St. Patrick's, so yes, by all means, go elsewhere if your only goal for your child is Cathedral schools or Sidwell. You are closed minded and I guess just not a great critical thinker.

I'm one of the critical PPs and you are right. There are so many factors to weigh when evaluating whether a school is worth the enormous cost and stressing about my child's future has made me truly neurotic and is turning me into a person that I don't even like. Wow.

PP here too, I'm not elitist. But 40k is a lot of money and without test scores or something concrete besides outplacement. Honestly, I feel like this post is a bit disingenuous. The first thing people point to is outplacement when someone asks about academics. Then when you question the outplacement record, you're elitist? So, what should we be looking at? How should we compare schools? It's hard to know whether the quality is there or if it's all hype. While I appreciate your frustrations, we are all parents trying to make the best decisions for our families. And if you aren't uber rich and full pay, you want to make sure that you aren't being sold on something that isn't truly better.

Disingenuous. Agree.

News on 8th and sixth grade placement?

St Pats family here ... I know of at least a few 8th graders headed to Potomac. Haven't heard as much about sixty ... my kids are in lower school. Been there since PK and had a wonderful experience. Met a lot of great families, made a ton of great friends. Have never felt unwelcome anywhere at any time. Then again, I'm a Dad and so I'm oblivious to any mean girl / mean mom dynamics. The dads are great.

Former St Patrick family. Dad’s are great. It is the mom’s who cause the issues. Surprised on Potomac? St Patrick’s is a DC school. What about STA/NCS and Landon/Holton?

That’s interesting bc i heard it was a particularly hard year to get into Potomac ninth grade

Potomac is always hard to get in to and regularly WLs kids who get in to Sidwell, NCS, STA and GDS. My kid was one and I know many others. If you have a kid who wants a co-ed school with great academics and decent team sports, Potomac is the best option in the area by far. Every year approx 3-4 St Pats kids go on to Potomac for HS. Last year there were three.

Bumping an old post, but Q to current/former parents - do you think those kids would have gotten in anyway (they had a hook)? Or do you feel St. Pat’s was the reason they got in? (Realize there is a new HOS this year)…
