I have heard mean moms that went to St. Patrick’s have poisoned the well at a few schools. Heard it from several people. Moms telling friends not to bring other parents and their KIDS to their country club and their social club even as guests while others stood idly by and did nothing. Beyond cruel.

Is this Chevy? What is it about this club? I have no time for golf and seems expensive for just summer swim. What schools has this affected? I cannot imagine a seasoned educator leaving a child out because of legacy parent bad behavior. Maybe not a strong eighth grade class?

Pp this! We have thought about Chevy Chase, have a good number of friends who belong but quite frankly we do not have time. One thing we both work and the kids have other afterschool activities and too much homework. And we go away all summer. Plus unfortunately there is a subset of that crowd that is extremely mean and cliquey. I have friends at Saint Pats and if you are a working mom you may be ostracized. There are all lot of stay at home moms there. Way more than other schools. Signed not s Saint Pats mom but someone with a handful of Saint Pats friends.

I think most parents who did not apply out don’t want to directly ask but everyone is curious. Also is PB retiring? If he retires the. Who is taking over. That is also a big topic. If he is staying would be great if school sent out a note.

Do people from St. Pat. post about schools??

I didn't see any post from parents of my DC's school. I have to ask them to find out where their friends are going - and they ARE going places! I also didn't want to post about DC's new school - a "big 3". Actually, now that they are older, I am not even allowed to post anything about them.

The St. Pats talk is fascinating to me. I had 2 kids in a St. Pats feeder preschool 8 years ago and the moms whose kids went on to St. Pats were horrible. They wouldn't even look at me most the time despite us meeting a dozen times or more.
I've never encountered this behavior before or after in DC---or really any other time in my adult life. I ended up sending my youngest kid to a different NW DC preschool and there was non of this behavior. They're now in a mixture of public and top
(big3) privates and again, none of this. Something is weird about this crowd but it does seems centered on St. Pats (in certain years--I'm sure others are just fine).

PP, which preschool feeds to st Pats? I saw similar mean mom behavior at my older child’s Beauvoir feeder preschool and would like to avoid that for the next child.

Was surprised to hear there was a St Par’s feeder, given that St Pats has its own nursery program.

It is the school before nursery. It is in a wealthy area. Many people go there and then send.

A couple of years ago My DC was admitted to St Pats and the conversation I had with the parent responsible for welcoming me to the school actually was so awful that it convinced me not to go. The parent talked about how the school was great for kids but I shouldn’t go looking to have a community because the parents were largely insular. I literally remarked to my DH that I couldn’t imagine a worse conversation for a parent considering a school. I’ll never forget it either. I honestly don’t know what the parent was trying to accomplish. Aren’t we sending our children so they can become part of a community?

I was seriously puzzled by the call.

It seems that the unhappy people are very unhappy with St Patrick’s. Is this a vocal minority, and the majority are happy with the school? I would have to assume so, given how many people still want to be there, right?

There are many many social climbers in this town. The people who are clambering to get their kids are those who wish to be associated with the "elite." Keep in mind, this is true of most of the private schools in the area, but it is definitely true about St. Patrick's.

But neither St Pat’s or Chevy are considered elite so that doesn’t really make sense.

Not a Chevy Chase club member or a St Patrick’s parent (yet- we’re accepted and considering), but isn’t that club one of the most elite in the region? I will never be a country club member as I’m middle class and don’t golf, but heck, even I’ve heard of that club as one of the most elite.
