St Patrick’s- has anyone heard yet

My DC attends another k-8 and I think these are good results. Maret is particularly difficult to gain admission because of its size. To get three admits there is a big deal. Potomac is an excellent school as is Madeira. Big 3 schools aren’t right for everyone, even those who can handle then academically. Similarly, sometimes athletes prefer Catholic schools or schools like Landon or Bullis.

This is a good point. Also, the PP who mentioned that students are starting at nursery, where a school has no ability to guess a child's potential - this represents a diverse grouping of schools. if you include Potomac and Maret in the "top" schools (all subjective, I know), that has 11/34 students at a "top" school, which is 32%. Those are pretty decent results.

I'm actually one of the PPs who was a long-time parent and am fairly critical of the school, but I have to say that the poster who posted that list really doesn't understand. What even is the "very top?" For the record, at least one of the Potomac attendees turned down NCS and I know of another who turned down Sidwell for a different school. You are actually the very type of parent that brings down places like St. Patrick's, so yes, by all means, go elsewhere if your only goal for your child is Cathedral schools or Sidwell. You are closed minded and I guess just not a great critical thinker.

I'm one of the critical PPs and you are right. There are so many factors to weigh when evaluating whether a school is worth the enormous cost and stressing about my child's future has made me truly neurotic and is turning me into a person that I don't even like. Wow.

I have heard mean moms have poisoned the well at a few schools. Heard it from several people. Moms telling friends not to bring other parents and their KIDS to their country club and their social club even as guests while others stood idly by and did nothing. Beyond cruel.

Yup heard this as well particularly one or two St. Pats moms at Big 3’s. Surprised they were not vetted more carefully as there is often a pattern in behavior like that.

PP here too, I'm not elitist. But 40k is a lot of money and without test scores or something concrete besides outplacement. Honestly, I feel like this post is a bit disingenuous. The first thing people point to is outplacement when someone asks about academics. Then when you question the outplacement record, you're elitist? So, what should we be looking at? How should we compare schools? It's hard to know whether the quality is there or if it's all hype. While I appreciate your frustrations, we are all parents trying to make the best decisions for our families. And if you aren't uber rich and full pay, you want to make sure that you aren't being sold on something that isn't truly better.

Is the bad behavior of some of the moms a Palisades thing? I am not trying to stir the pot, I am genuinely curious. My child goes to a Palisades preschool and though I love the school and would like to consider St. Patrick's, if I have to continue to listen to ridiculous conversations of parents talking about how they go to the islands for the weekend, or the relative merits of their baby nurses and weekend nannies in households with a stay at home parent, I don't think I can do it.

It’s a crap shoot. Oldest’s grade is great. Youngest’s not so much. The moms in that grade majorly suck; excluding kids, etc... It really is a horrible group of moms in that grade.

I would think they would just ignore such a pushy controlling person.

Just ignor them and find your own friends. They really aren't worth your time or emotions and they usually cannot get their kids into the Cathedral schools, Sidwell, Maret or Potomac and they would never send their kids to GDS (far to progressive for them). You find them mostly at Landon and Holton and Bullis.

yes, i know this crowd too although my kids are now on the older side of things (oldest is 12). Agree that none are at GDS (too progressive) or Sidwell (too academic). A couple are at the Cathedral schools with older kids but this crowd isn't getting in much anymore. Most are at Landon, Holton and surprisingly some Catholic schools.

yes, i know this crowd too although my kids are now on the older side of things (oldest is 12). Agree that none are at GDS (too progressive) or Sidwell (too academic). A couple are at the Cathedral schools with older kids but this crowd isn't getting in much anymore. Most are at Landon, Holton and surprisingly some Catholic schools.

Please you find these type of parents everywhere. They are at Sidwell. They are at all the schools- private or public. They are on the sports team. If you go looking for drama you will find it. The mean girls really like picking on people like....let’s call her the country club poster(CCP). The bigger the reaction and drama the better. If you want to get back at them CCP call them out by name. There are always two sides of a story. Love to hear the other side.

obviously you don't know this particular crowd. Sure, there are mean and exclusive people in any DC private or public. That's not the point of this post.
We're talking about a particular subset that has had a presence at St. Pats for years.
