Violent Fight at Magruder HS

An ambulance should have been called, but in and of itself, fighting is not unusual.

Not all schools have a full-time nurse and nurses do take breaks, sometimes leaving the school campus.

School administrators could have had a PE teacher, athletic director, physical trainer, or a teacher who is a coach do a concussion test on the kid. Any of these people would have known vomiting after a blow to the head is a serious symptom.

Does every concussion require an ambulance? My child just had one and it was a visit to the pediatricians office (and follow ups).

All HSs have flights and most school systems unlike MCPS take action. MCPS protects itself not the students. This leads to more fights but again MCPS doesn't care unless it becomes public.

PP who you quoted. I agree 100%. MCPS cares about publicity. The fact that so many different HSs have been in the news this year is probably making their heads spin. It’s no longer two “bad” apples, it’s the whole lot.

Agree completely.

And agree with the other PP who wishes the AG could investigate the entire school system and its culture of not protecting students. How many times do we have to see examples of this before MCPS changes its course? MCPS has become worse than the Catholic Church.

Today students from Frost Middle School can Home concerned about threats of violence made by an 8th grader. (Yes the officials know) but these things are distracting. Hopefully these students are removed from their respective schools.

Of secondary importance - I hope Leroy Evans finally loses his job over this. He is an abomination. I don’t mean hidden in a cushy central office position either. I don’t want one penny of my taxes going to his salary anymore.

Bullcrap, you have it out for him because you cannot walk all over him like you want.

I'd say this is worse than a concussion and in need of immediate care . . .

“The whole system failed today. It just failed,” said Van Dyken, whose 14-year-old son is one of the two students seen fighting in the video. “My son is here at a hospital with a fractured skull and bleeding from his head and nothing was done at the school.”

What? The stories I hear from friends about what goes on in the school frighten the hell out of me. safety first - Without that, teachers can't teach. No learning goes on. And kids and teachers get hurt.

been there, done that - NO THANKS!

Good leaders protect kids from harming themselves and others. That's the bottom line.

You would think that if a kid was almost killed under your watch that you would be fired. The principal should be fired.

Because you have the benefit of hindsight and a video to watch...a lot more info than school staff did.

At my high school, when there were fights the police arrested those involved.

You don't know the background of people posting.

When you've been around the county for over two decades, you know what's fact and what's fiction.

Honestly, most of the injuries occur due to fighting on a hard surface and the lack of someone stopping the fight when someone is taking too much damage.

I'm 52. I attended MCPS schools. (not a W school either) I do not EVER remember seeing such fights - EVER.

Your acceptance of this behavior is truly disturbing.

Not that it’s right, nor do I accept this behavior, but I’m 37, attended Magruder HS, and remember some pretty gnarly fights including a girl grabbing another girls hair so hard she pulled toucans blood went everywhere. Also remember some girl getting her shirt ripped off in a fight. Again not saying it’s right in any way but this is not a new thing. Unfortunately these things are not supposed to happen due to zero tolerance for bullying and so forth but we know MCPS administration is a shitshow.
