When a celebrity in person really underwhelms you

Sat beside David Suzuki while waiting for a flight. He was friendly for a bit and chatted then hid behind a newspaper for the rest of the time.

Uma Thurman is a mess but oozes cool
Saw Gwenyth before she became a workout guru and she was skinny fat and her face was pallid and her eyes very beady.
Reece Witherspoon needs every inch of help. She is a complete soccer mom in person, no offense to soccer moms but she is completely highstrung SAHM normal. Not hot in trhe least.
Ethan Hawke is part-the-crowd something special.
Tracy Anderson is nice and toned, but sad.

My dad has met a few politicians in his line of work. He always rants about John Kasich. He said he’s short and angry.

John Kasich is famously amiable and at least 6 foot.

I hung out with Madonna once (I am *not* cool, rich, or powerful - it was a friend of a friend of a friend thing)

She was nice but also odd. Had a strange affect. Said she loved my earrings and gave me the rest of her cocktail.

In person, Cillian Murphy is certainly short but those eyes are indescribably blue, I was shaking just looking at him. I wonder if his kids inherited those!
Back in the 1990s, Ralph Fiennes was super handsome but sweaty after a Hamlet performance. He was gracious but clearly drained after being on stage.

Ha. Did you drink it? What kind of cocktail was it?

I totally believe the nice but odd and strange affect.

Hmm so rumors that he's kind of a jerk IRL could be true. Excellent that he looks even better in person!!

That’s what happens when you go from totally geek to totally chic....

Al Franken was a neighbor in Capitol Hill. In the 5+ years he lived next door, he never said hello. His wife, on the other hand, was always polite and greeted neighbors.

I never got the hype about him, truly.

A friend currently works for a theatre in London doing a lot of "artist relations," planning events and giving tours, and recently Ralph Fiennes was in a play there. She says he is genuinely gracious (good word PP) and remembers all the staff members, speaks to everyone, etc. Very serious when working but she called him "low-stress to be around." Not the case with all stage actors, either, and she sees a lot of them. I envy her the job!

When DH worked at the White House in the 90s, he met a number of celebrities. His impressions: Whitney Houston was the most beautiful woman he's every seen in real life though rude/difficult, Lauren Hutton and Kathleen Turner were the most striking and charismatic though KT's issues with alcohol were problematic. Martin Sheen was the nicest, with Nicholas Cage a close second. Laura Dern and Lolita Davidovich were very nice, as well as excited to be there.

Benjamin Bratt filmed on Corcoran St around 2001 and he was super nice. Talked to us on our stoop while we watched. Just a nice guy. Handsome.
Shared a very small elevator with Dick Clark in Venice. Luckily he was super tiny. And old.

I've been told he can be very "handsy" by a solid source.
