Why do most women wear capri or full length tights to the gym when not doing yoga?

Why are people at the gym close enough to you to even be able to tell?

I wear leggings because I have sensitive skin and when I used to do machines that required sitting on the machine I often had reactions on my legs and thighs to the chemicals gyms use to clean the machines. Pants keep this from being an issue.

Again, it's not about other people. It's for the individual to be 100% comfortable in what she is wearing so she can concentrate on working out.

I also assume many want everyone to know what kind of underwear they’re wearing. Just cuz you paid a lot for those tights doesn’t mean we can’t see what god gave you in great detail. I wear shorts because even though I’m slender and athletic, the thought of leaving nothing to the imagination regarding my ass is not something I want.

Oh honey, you aren't supposed to wear underwear with them.

Who says we aren't supposed to wear underwear with leggings? There is no leggings police. I like breathable cotton on my crotch instead of synthetics.

And please stop with condescending "Oh, honey" comments.

I find them more comfortable and functional when weightlifting especially (nope, I am not deadlifting in shorts!!). If I'm doing a movement where I might be on the floor, lying down, other otherwise not upright, wearing pants vs. running shorts means that no one will be able to see up my shorts. Otherwise I'd have to wear bicycle shorts or other very tight shorts, which leave me feeling exposed. I've done bicycle shorts under looser shorts but I don't like how it feels.

I actually used to wear shorts for HIIT type workouts and switched to pants earlier this year, and was surprised at how comfortable I was. I am also someone who gets very sweaty but somehow wearing the long pants to workout indoors, even in the DC summer, doesn't bother me.

You're right that shorts are more revealing. My husband admitted that earmy in our relationship, when we went running together, when we stretched he could see all the way up my shorts. Like, a full view. He insists I wear leggings to the gym.

I wish more men would wear pants in the gym honestly. I've been flashed with a view up the shorts more times than I needed

What I don't understand are women who wear those tight booty shorts to the gym. Like where half their butt cheek is hanging out. I don't want your butt cheek or crotch sweat (or god knows what other bodily fluids) on the equipment. Blech.

Personally, I prefer a little fabric between me and the equipment I am sitting on. Yuck.

This happened to me at yoga class. Some things cannot be unseen.

I've noticed that over the past couple years, more and more women are ditching shorts, in favor of capri length and full length leggings. Why? I usually reserve them for yoga (so no one sees my hooha) and running in cooler weather. Not that I really care, but am I dating myself by sporting my shorts at the gym?

No matter how healthy I eat or how much I work out (pt 4 45 minute sessions and 4 35 minute cardio per week), I am obese. I also don’t wear underwear (infections).

1. No interest in exposing myself.
2. Compression keeps everything where it belongs.
3. Modesty is a good look, shorts rolling up my thighs is not.
4. I work out hard, I don’t want to pull my clothes back into position after 2-4 reps.

I walk to the gym and it's cold out now! Wear shorts in the summer.
