Why do most women wear capri or full length tights to the gym when not doing yoga?

Another vote that I can’t be bothered shaving.

comfy and can run a quick errand in them after workout- especially when it's chilly out

OP here- Thanks for all the replies! I had no idea there was anything other than fashion behind this and aim glad to hear there are some folks who still wear shorts! It occurred to me that if I switched to capris, I’d have to get a bunch of new tops since I usually pair fitted tops with my shorts...

I wear them because my thighs rub together. I have tried to run in shorts and was horribly chafed afterwards. I see people running in shorts and their thighs rub and just don't understand - that pain is 100% avoidable with capris.

I wear capris or full length leggings at the gym for the many reasons listed above. I just wanted to add for those that are too hot that there are a lot of options with mesh areas for ventilation, that’s what I wear in the summer. I certainly don’t judge anyone or really notice if they are wearing shorts though.

I wear shorts, but I run, long and hard, on the treadmill, and I drip sweat. The capri crew I see generally aren't doing heavy cardio.

For what it's worth, my secondary students who are girls wear shorts for cross country practice. It isn't a uniform: they could wear capris if they wanted, but they don't. Also, the girls in the dorm I supervise lounge around in (short) shorts unless it is really cold.

I switched to capri leggings a couple of years ago -- so much more comfortable for jogging. And at 50 the less skin I show and the more compression I have, the happier I am. I sweat a lot and I don't find capris noticeably warmer than shorts.

+1.

Why would you need to? I wore a fitted top with my capris in my gym class after work today, as did half the class.

I wear running shorts unless my leg/pubic hair situation is pretty bad, or unless I’m spinning, in which case I wear bike shorts.

I wear capris year run, in the gym, running outside and so forth. I like hiding my legs and appreciate the compression, especially when running. I also find them more comfortable because I don't have to worry about them riding up.

+1. No need to buy new tops.

Have you ever seen a SoulCycle or solidcore class?

What a stupid question! What coverage, of course and to look better. Nobody wants to see my cellulite and fat.
