Why do most women wear capri or full length tights to the gym when not doing yoga?

says they are hopelessly outdated, so I don't wear the shorts anymore and just work out for less time since I'm so hot.

You cut your workout short because your DH says your shorts aren’t fashionable? That is crazy. Wear what makes you comfortable!

I’ve worn capris/yoga pants to the gym since 1998.

I don’t want any of my bare skin on machines. Seems gross to me. Leggings are also much more flattering.

With tights/capris, I can leave the gym after my workout without changing (like I'll be doing today after my post-work workout). Usually too cold to do that in shorts. Plus, don't want to metro commute in shorts and have to sit my bare skin on those gross metro seats (yep, I'm a little OCD, lol).

FWIW, OP, I'm with you. I don't care what other women wear to the gym, but I will continue to wear my (unfashionable) shorts. Having fabric on the backs of my knees when I start to sweat is just not comfortable for me, and gets me overheated.

Because I lost weight, and the loose skin on my thighs is jiggly - so I want/need the compression.

Also, they're longer = less surface area to shave!

I also still wear shorts to the gym. I get so sweaty!! Have been wondering about this too

+2. And see ugly white legs comment above.

I am the same as you OP. I get way too hot in tights. I don’t have any “rubbing” problems.

Same! I don't care if I'm not fashionable. I also don't care if I have stubble on my legs. I've been married a long time and am not looking to attract anyone at the gym. The only person I care to look good for is my spouse and being dressed comfortably enough to work out is what helps keep me in shape and looking good!

I would wear shorts if I was just getting on the treadmill. Otherwise, I don’t like how shorts hike up when doing things like jump squats. So for me I don’t want to worry about annoying shorts.

+1 I wear the 2 in 1 shorts to avoid accidental exposure.

It's also hard to do spinning with shorts as all the movement around the bike seat moves the shorts around--much better to be covered. I find capri length/knee length tights dramatically cooler than full length tights which I wear very infrequently.
