| And to be very clear, what I mean by that is that this discussion is pointless. |
+1 Unfortunately, it looks like we're going to have to sink even farther down before that will happen. |
People who have sons in the development pipeline don't see this as pointless. If things don't change, many of those who can will start exploring options outside the iron grip of US Soccer/MLS. |
| Arsene Wenger! |
F@ck you. It tends to be the dads with their head up the coaches asses that are wooed by that kind of thing, prancing along behind him in their full FIFA warm up suits. The biggest sychophants are the dads. I sit there and watch it happen constantly and most of them never played the sport. |
Despite the fact that the DA system seems to be working, and it's producing lots of players that are going overseas to play? |
"Seems to be" is a good way to put it. I have concerns after our club decided to drop DA and one of the reasons we were told for the decision is that DA is going to give preference to teams from MLS clubs in the future. If true, that would limit both the non-MLS development opportunities and the chances to go overseas. |
A big problem with MLS-controlled development is the league's territoriality rule. If you live in the DMV, you either go to DC United or you don't go to an MLS club, because they won't take you. If you've heard that Dallas has a better youth program, or Philadelphia has a coach you'd like your kid to work with, you have to make a permanent move to get in. Just another thing MLS does that other countries don't do which handicaps the US system vs. those countries' NTs. |
How would that limit the chances to go overseas? |
The club owns your rights. |
Not at the DA level they don't. |
MLS DA clubs do own your player rights. You have to sign with them. |
They don't own your player rights unless the player signs a professional contract. DAs (MLS and local non-MLS clubs) do not sign professional contracts with their players. MLS is a single entity so there are no MLS clubs, there are MLS franchises, just like McDonalds. |
Ooooh, you’re fiesty; I like that! Single or married? Let’s grab a drink, promise not to wear my special edition Ronaldo warm ups.
On the positive side for Berkhalter, the bar is so low here that all he has to do is seem halfway competent to greatly exceed expectations. |
If you're going to be a complete asshole, at least spell Berhalter's name right. |
