People who come to a complete stop in merging lanes

Anonymous
I don't get angry when someone comes to a stop in a merge lane. Impatient, yes, but you never know if someone got something in their eye and couldn't see, or had a temporary car acceleration issue, or had a dog run in front of them that you didn't see, or if there was a jerk that charged forward unexpectedly to block that particular merge. Who knows? It's one snapshot of their driving. Let it go.

But if it's you in the merge lane stopping, you know whether this is a recurrent problem for you. If it is happening over and over, you should know that something about your driving performance is consistently putting yourself and others at risk -- coming to a stop at a place you are not expected to really does raise the risk of collisions behind you. The number one rule of driving is to be predictable and not disrupt the orderly progression of traffic.

If it is happening to you on a regular basis, you shouldn't be sitting there at a stop on the merge thinking everyone else is just an asshole. You should be thinking that something is unsafe about your driving, and you should be making a plan to fix that.

Honestly, I Think it's the lack of Driver's Ed in High School's ......one of the Worst things that they took out, right up there with Shop Class, and Home Ec.

Distance yourself away from cars with Temporary tags too

Zipper only works when the people in the traveling lane aren't acting like a$$holes. Which around here is a tall order.

I do my best but try to avoid those lanes when I know it is coming.

I’m 20+ years without an accident I’ve caused, and a very good driver. These are just lousy situations. My solution is to go a different way.

Okay - so I googled this since I couldn't think of any, and I have seen a few of these - and have subsequently avoided them. And I don't blame the people who stop entirely, because I know that there is a subset of drivers in this area that will absolutely not let anyone merge.

Off-f*cking-topic.

OP said there WAS room to merge.

Oooooh we got the post police up in here!! Gonna give us detention for being off topic?

You are as annoying on DCUM as you are on the road. Learn how to f*cking drive, twit.

Nah I think I'll continue to annoy you here and on the road. Hope you're late to your all hands meeting!
