People who come to a complete stop in merging lanes

I'm normally against pushing other vehicles with mine, but all situations have an exception. This is one of them.

Go start a new thread if you want to rant about road rage. This one is about people who don't obey traffic laws by stopping in a traffic lane that should be moving. You can also bitch on there about people who drive faster than 55 mph in the left lane and flash their lights at you because you never move out of the left lane.

I don't think anybody is stopping at will in a moving lane of traffic -- as in, oh, I think I'm just going to stop here right now because I think it's a great place to stop, whee!

Also, here's the OP:

Why do you do this? It makes me hate you. I don’t want to hate you.

So I think that road rage is entirely on topic.

OP, I thought of you and this thread as I was trying to merge onto a 66 Eastbound traffic lane this afternoon with no merge area. I sped up as expected to move into an adequate merge space between 2 cars. The ASSSSS in the 2nd car sped up to block me from entering. I had to swerve to the far right/bold yellow line shoulder to avoid being hit.

I am not one who dead stops in a merge, but the above scenario happens so frequently around here that I give people a pass. Other cars speed up all of the time to block mergers.

I do my best but try to avoid those lanes when I know it is coming.

I’m 20+ years without an accident I’ve caused, and a very good driver. These are just lousy situations. My solution is to go a different way.

Okay - so I googled this since I couldn't think of any, and I have seen a few of these - and have subsequently avoided them. And I don't blame the people who stop entirely, because I know that there is a subset of drivers in this area that will absolutely not let anyone merge.

Uhhhh...calmly posting on DCUM <> road rage. Do you even know what road rage is?

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Stop stopping in the merge lanes, old lady!

Off-f*cking-topic.

OP said there WAS room to merge.

Which ramp onto 66E has no merge area?

Yep, I stop at the merge point sometimes, when it is not safe to proceed. Not often, maybe a couple times a year, but it happens. Sorry or something.

Not off-topic, either - the OP has refused to say where this merge was, so who knows if it is one of the ones on the WTOP list or not?

You are as annoying on DCUM as you are on the road. Learn how to f*cking drive, twit.

This doesn’t sound like a problematic merge at all.

Stay off the road you old hags. You are a hazard to those around you.

When I see people doing this in my mirror I often won't let them merge back in easily because the merge lanes are for cars ENTERING the roadway a-holes!

OH I HATE THIS! Happens on the inner loop all the time where traffic from the Rockville Pike merges in on the left. It's a very long merge lane and people hop into it all the time to get ahead of traffic. Makes me ragey.

This spot is the f-cking worst.

Just begin using the ZIPPER EFFECT .......Traffic will flow, and one car will scoot into the line at a time.....practice it all over.....MAYBE it will catch on.......

Honestly, I Think it's the lack of Driver's Ed in High School's ......one of the Worst things that they took out, right up there with Shop Class, and Home Ec.

Distance yourself away from cars with Temporary tags too
