Stop offering your unsolicited commentary to other people’s lists when they didn’t ask you for it! Good God!

Yup. This isn’t a place to critique a list. And plus, if poster wanted opinions on that they would have asked in a thread about rate my list or whatever.

To Ben fair, Swami is a day late at this point...

Either way, nobody is asking for anyone’s opinion on this post. If you aren’t swami keep it to yourself

No.

But, why be a douche on purpose?

A douche on purpose is forcing your poor 5/6 year old to learn mandarin when the other kids have been studying it for two years. "MAKE MOMMY PROUD G-D DANGIT!!!!!! YOU LOVED DCPS SPANISH CAMP AND THAT IS THE SAME THING!!!!!!"

Seriously, people do this all the time. Calm down.

Possibly but it still doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Obviously it's a bad idea for your kid - and nobody knows better than you that your kid clearly isn't up to the challenge. Of course, there are plenty of children who are, and for them it makes sense.

Your put-downs are funny.

I actually have done the leg work to make sure my kids speak three languages. It is very hard. These parents who put their kids in an immersion school - any school- confuse me. I don't understand how they think their 5/6 year old can possibly catch up without SIGNIFICANT effort- not just a 2 week trip to China or Montreal. You do you- but your children aren't remotely bilingual.

I think you believe I'm being nasty for no reason- the truth is that it is VERY hard to teach an older child a foreign language. Maybe you're up for this? Maybe you have a an au pair ready to go, or you speak mandarin and French and Spanish and can help your kid. But I doubt it. Bilingual schools are great but they're not magicians. Realize this before you make a mistake.

You guys are so clueless. This is a swami thread and you are derailing it with inane, petty arguments AGAIN. Seriously, get over yourselves.

You are being nasty for no reason. You can express your concerns with courtesy if you choose. Yes, I am up for teaching a foreign language. And if you are settled in a good school, try to have some empathy for how it feels to strike out two years in a row. A tough adjustment is not too high a price to pay, if the end result is language skills and going to DCI instead of Dunbar.

Just ignore this poster -- she's just trying to eliminate the competition. You do you and stop feeding this nasty troll. She pushed Swami away, and I'm pissed because I liked her predictions.

+1 The Swami threads are so essential to creating levity during a stressful time, and this idiot came and peed all over the thread with her insecurity. Please go away.

I have no dog in this fight, but Swami has not indicated that (s)he's stayed away from this thread because of this sort of fighting. This fighting didn't really start until Swami was like 3 days late. The only explanation that some Swami has given us is that they were sick.

Yes. I have second hand embarrassment.

Until you actually have an actual WL number to share with Swami, it's all asking a little much. Some of these lists have schools with hundreds of students on the WLs. Maybe you're 1st, maybe you're 489th. She's a Swami, but not a time-traveler.

But, she told us she’d rank lists after the close of the ranking date 3/15

Funny, because true.

Some children can learn a second language much later than others. I have a good friend whose accent is indistinguishable from the average citizen, she arrived here at age 12 speaking no English at all.

We get it. Based on your personal experience it is simply impossible to learn another language at age 5 and beyond. It's great that you won't be taking up a seat then for a child who can. Go merrily on your way, confident that you've made the best decision for your own family especially with their limitations in mind.

Not the same thing genius. Your friend at 12 came here and was surrounded by English with English tv and English speaking people. Not some completely delusional parent who can't even speak mandarin, Spanish, and/or French. If you want to move to France or China or Latin America for a year, yes your kid can learn it. But not here without any support.

Not insecure, just tired of delusional gringas.

Maybe people don't mind if the language skills don't totally happen. It's still more language and a better overall school than my kid has now. What's so wrong with that?

Pp from above that thinks immersion at K is a mistake. You make a fair point. And I was being a jerk about it because really i get the impulse. My point (and I maintain that it is a good one) is that immersion is really hard and it's not easy. But I do apologize for being a jerk. Best of luck in the lottery everyone.

Thank you very much. I appreciate hearing that from you. Good luck to you as well.
