Have you ever been personal friends with a seriously famous person?

HAHAHA! When I was younger OF COURSE! Now I'm basically a grandma in that circle and no know one cool anymore. But its normally at least 60 percent true. One thing that is true (and I'm ashamed that I played part in it) is wives are mean to "girlfriends." I got swept up into that culture and I regret it. My piece of paper makes me no better! Ive grown in the last decade, thankfully!

I know the wife of an NFL player because I am a writer covering a beat that she is involved with (NOT sports) - but I never feel like I can ask her the really juicy stuff without it making me seem too dumb to talk to.

I am friends with a guy who was pretty famous at one point, then became way more anonymous. Back when we were hanging out a lot, was when he was really grappling with the loss of fame. It hit him hard back then. I think he's come to terms with it now. (We lived in the same place at the time we were friends, and spent a lot of time together - haven't lived in the same city in years so it's also possible I just don't get the same level of opening up anymore.)

Am 44 and totally know who Twisted Sister is.

To be fair, it was the example the op gave. Many people aren’t familiar with twisted sister, and probably some thought Dee was a woman.

It depends on what you consider famous. My husband is really good friends with a retired pro football player who has two Superbowl rings. His brother and sister-in-law are also our next door neighbors. If you're not into football, you probably wouldn't know who he was. I'm not into football, so I didn't know him when we first met. My husband had to tell me.
