I had a friend (who is actually pretty shy) who was a porn star that was well-known enough that most times when we were out, someone would come up to us at restaurants, bars, the mall, on the street, etc. and say "I love your work."

My brother graduated with and is still very good friends with Lebron James. I only see him 1-2 times a year at bigger family celebrations but I still "know" him and Savannah fairly well. #akron #irishpride

I think people don't want to reveal their true, close relationships with household names. It's a way of protecting these relationships. I once dated a seriously famous person, who is now dead and whose life and death is the subject of many conspiracies and TV/film productions. Out of respect for his family whom I still care about and send holiday cards, I wouldn't want to reveal more.

I believe you, and your info about their relationship is respectful of both. My point is that the person in the friendship is generally protective about it because it's not about the fame to that person but about the closeness.

Years ago I had several dates with a famous athlete. It made me glad I was not famous. People treat you very abnormally. You are always stared at also, and people whisper and point, when you are in a restaurant. Now I would imagine they record you on their cell phones and ask to take selfies. No privacy or relaxation when you are out.

I have also worked with numerous entertainment figures. Some were extremely down to earth and generous (such as Meryl Streep). Others were more bratty/demanding/spoiled (a famous singer).

Their behavior & probably depend on how well they were raised and whether they had time to grow up before being exposed to the world of fame and fortune.
