Have you ever been the victim of road rage?

What a weird impulse.

Ive brake-checked people that were aggressively tailgating me, andthree times it's resulted in crashes. Twice the tailgater hit me in the rear, and once they ran off the road and crashed into trees. I kept going that time like nothing happened.

Cops were called, they were charged with following too closely, failure to avoid a crash. I was never charged with anything, even when the people who hit me told the police officer I did it intentionally. I said I braked as hard as I could because I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye about to run into the road. I can't help if they couldn't stop, it wasn't my concern.

The two times they hit me, my car was damaged beyond value ("totaled", because it was a crappy older car and not worth anything) and I used my PIP insurance to run up the bills for physical therapy. I wasn't hurt, but I wanted to run the bill up, because in Maryland, the typical settlement for an at-fault accident is about 3x the medical

So for one crash I got $36,000 and the other I got $22,000, minus 34% to my attorney. So I made out ok.

I have a nice car now, so I probably won't do it now, but if I'm ever driving a beater again, I'll do it if I'm provoked.

Did you wait until the last minute and cut in front of a long line of cars patiently waiting? Did you cut him off? You did something that set him off. Also, why not switch lanes and slow down to let him get in front of you so you could disengage?

I can't understand why other people in this thread are condemning you, except to surmise that they are aggressive road ragers themselves.

You're a good a decent person. I wish there were more of you on the roads.

I was leaving a residential community at night when I was a teenager. There were lots of tall pine trees obstructing my view to make a right turn, and I pulled up further to see if there were oncoming cars. A car came speeding right at me at braked, hard. I was not blocking the road. I didn't know what to do except make the turn. At the next red light, the driver got out of the car and ran at me. Luckily I had the sense to just drive on through the red light and lose the asshole.

Unbelievable. This is what's wrong with the insurance industry! People like you driving the rates up.

I certainly hope you die next time you do it!

PP here.

Considering I wasn't really even hurt the two previous times I did it, it's pretty unlikely that I'll be killed the next time I do it.

But thanks for wishing DEATH on someone who won't put up with bullying from other drivers.

That really says a lot about you. A lot.

I hope you're tailgating me one day, and I'm driving another beater of a car. Because you'll end up paying me too, just like the two other asshats.

I took a guys door off once.

He was tailgating me, I stomped on my brakes, which really made him mad. Then he passed me, and cut in front of me and stopped. He got out of his truck and started walking back towards my car, gesturing for me to get out and fight him. So I started reversing, and backing up. I backed up like 150 feet, slowly, with him following me and cussing at me the whole way. Then I put the car in gear and pulled left, wide around him, trying to get away. As I passed him, he punched my side mirror and broke it.

That REALLY pissed me off, and I noticed his driver door was open on his truck. So I aimed right for it and hit it, folding it forwards against the front of his truck.

In hindsight, this turned out to be brilliant, because he couldn't follow me now, since his truck was undrivable because of the door hanging forwards.

If you're ever in this situation, do what I did.

Except call the cops afterwards, because I never did.

NP here. Let's leave aside your own safety, and even that of the other driver. What about the other cars on the road? Do you really think you have so much control over your vehicle that you could always do a "brake check" and be 100% sure that you would not cause any harm to any other car or driver innocently passing by? You're getting hyper-focused here, and losing the forest for the trees. I'd encourage you to re-think your entire approach to driving.

I don't. I hope she gets arrested for her calculated, deliberate, passive aggressive and reckless driving techniques.

Well, I wasn't. Both times.

So that answers that for ya

Did your eyes glaze over or brain quit working when you got to the part that said "the cops didn't cite me, despite the other driver stating both times that I slammed on the brakes"?

Because it doesn't matter WHY I hit the brakes. All that matters is that they rear ended me. That's an at-fault situation, and that's all that matters. That's why I wasn't cited and they were.

It's not fraud. They really did hit me. I really did do $12,000 worth of physical therapy and chiropractic work. All that really happened. There's no fraud whatsoever

Just two asshole bullies who thought they could do whatever they want to other drivers.

They found out otherwise

I was a passenger when my father did something to anger another driver...the other driver followed us all the way home. I had kept telling my dad not to drive home but he didn't listen. The guy got out of his car and started yelling at us. My dad apologized and the guy eventually left. I was definitely worried about the other driver knowing where we lived.

My husband and I teach a Driver Improvement Class every month. We show videos about road rage. To the PP who is causing accidents and collecting insurance money, you need to take a class like ours, because you are exhibiting classic signs of road rage.
