Have you ever been the victim of road rage?

Anonymous
Agreed, completely. I just find it interesting how people are so angry at her.

Tailgating is akin to a form of bullying. And we tell our kids to stand up to bullies. Yet this woman, who seems to be standing up to bullies (albeit in a very dangerous way) is drawing such ire and scorn that she is more condemned than the actual bullies who are creating the situation in the first place.

This indicates to me that there is an societal acceptance of bullying behavior, and that it's very common. And a societal condemnation of striking back against bullies. Because there's a bully inside all of us, and we don't like to be challenged.

24YO here and people in general are just ruder and meaner in this area. I feel like I've become a nastier person just from living here. People suck.

DC pizzing contest. A bunch of grown adults acting like children.

As someone who grew up in DC- yes it is worse there. And getting worse every day. It seems to attract a particular kind of insane, power hungry transplant which means horrible drivers. Every time I have to visit home and drive I am so thankful to have moved out!

How the hell can it be home if you claimed to have grown up in DC? You sound very confused.

Anyhow, when in Rome....

Cops were called, they were charged with following too closely, failure to avoid a crash. I was never charged with anything, even when the people who hit me told the police officer I did it intentionally. I said I braked as hard as I could because I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye about to run into the road. I can't help if they couldn't stop, it wasn't my concern.

The two times they hit me, my car was damaged beyond value ("totaled", because it was a crappy older car and not worth anything) and I used my PIP insurance to run up the bills for physical therapy. I wasn't hurt, but I wanted to run the bill up, because in Maryland, the typical settlement for an at-fault accident is about 3x the medical

So for one crash I got $36,000 and the other I got $22,000, minus 34% to my attorney. So I made out ok.

I have a nice car now, so I probably won't do it now, but if I'm ever driving a beater again, I'll do it if I'm provoked.

Insurance Fraud. A federal offense.

Thanks for sharing.

Did your eyes glaze over or brain quit working when you got to the part that said "the cops didn't cite me, despite the other driver stating both times that I slammed on the brakes"?

Because it doesn't matter WHY I hit the brakes. All that matters is that they rear ended me. That's an at-fault situation, and that's all that matters. That's why I wasn't cited and they were.

It's not fraud. They really did hit me. I really did do $12,000 worth of physical therapy and chiropractic work. All that really happened. There's no fraud whatsoever

Just two asshole bullies who thought they could do whatever they want to other drivers.

They found out otherwise

It doesn't matter that the cops didn't cite you. You don't know anything. You just want to be right. How is that working for you?

I worked in an ER and someone was shot because he cut a man off. He almost died

Did you wait until the last minute and cut in front of a long line of cars patiently waiting? Did you cut him off? You did something that set him off. Also, why not switch lanes and slow down to let him get in front of you so you could disengage?

She is not to blame for his reaction, which was over-the-top, hostile, and likely illegal. Stop making excuses for this behavior.

Why do you think that idiot is a woman? He sounds like a 60 y.o. man to me.

Pp said he or she is glad to have left there. I assume that he or she means that he or she left dc and travels back here occasionally.

Oh, I assumed it was a "she" because I thought I read another poster refer to her as "her".

That's all. No other reason than that.

Honestly, only about half of tailgaters are doing it on purpose, i.e. aggressively. The other half are just shitty drivers who don't realize they need to leave enough room. They are the car equivalent of people who stand too close to you when you talk, or will choose the bathroom stall right next to yours when there's plenty of others available.

Dealing with aggressive, asshole-ish driver behavior makes me be a much nicer, more patient driver. Every time someone does something bad to me, I let more people in. Pay it forward.

This times a million! I have to drive to work now and it amazes me that people don't understand that you have to leave some space to brake between cars. I've seen two accidents over the past month that were basically caused by following too closely and rear ending someone while they were braking suddenly (because - traffic).

The annoying thing is that these idiots make traffic worse by creating more accidents, which drive people to drive even more aggressively. It's an awful cycle.

Perhaps you and the poster share psychological damage from having been bullied.

Regardless, the behavior s/he described is road rage and bragging about it got them the condemnation it deserved.

Frankly, I have a hard time believing they're actually insured with that kind of collision record.

I'm a mental health professional. It's in my nature to observe behaviors and speculate on root causation. I'm sorry you feel the need to attack me for that. Do you feel as though you are easily angered when people say things you disagree with? Have you ever considered talking to someone about these feelings? It might help.

As for car insurance, I know nothing about that, except that claims that are not at-fault tend not to affect rates. I was hit by a drunk driver and had an almost-new S-class totaled, and my rates didn't change at all.

I'm hardly angry. You should ask youself the questions you pose.

I did and reported it to the police. They were thrilled to get the info because apparently they were major dealers (new huge hummers in a small town, duh) and they were looking for any and all dirt/reasons to show up and confront/question them.

Basically they blew around a line of people on the shoulder, then cut back in, nearly causing a multiple rear end situation. They would have lived in their giant vehicle but everyone else in normal cars would have been mangled.
