We got a letter from school alerting us to this program and that many kids are not ready for it. I am quite impressed that the school actually gave us great information about this issue and subject.

Spoiler alert....
I watched them. 15 yo DD has not; wife has not. What struck me about the show is that, at no time, did Hannah let her parents know there was a problem. Even before it escalated. She never talked to her peers about how depressed she was. Even her counselor, she alluded to it. But, then backed off on the end it, saying something like it was a metaphor (not her words but mine). If she had talked to her parents -- who were dealing with their own stuff, they would have dropped everything to help. If she had talked to Clay, he would have helped. If she had talked to Tony, he would have helped. The lesson, and what I will tell my daughter if she watches it, is if things go bad, if you are having problems, ask for help. |
