| FCPS is getting many subs who barely speak English. You pay for a baby sitter, you get a baby sitter. |
I'm afraid to ask, but what are the requirements to be a sub? |
https://www.fcps.edu/index.php/Substitute-Teaching-New-Applicants I heard somewhere that they used to require a four-year degree but I'm not sure if that's true. I'm a sub and have heard complaints from teachers about subs being unable to read clearly or understand instructions (especially the people who sub for IAs). |
Subs are required to have two years of college. |
| 54 unfilled sub jobs as of 8:30 this morning in FCPS. Is there a problem here? |
Yes, yes there is. Out of curiosity, where are you getting the numbers? I definitely believe you, but I don't want to screw up my settings on my sub profile and check same-day jobs in the entire county if there's an easier way. |
| I just adjust the settings in my sub profile to all schools. Then I delete that setting after seeing how many jobs are still available. |
| How much is their hourly rate? Is it minimum wage? |
No, but it's definitely low for this area: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/pdf/FY18-substitute-and-homebound-rates.pdf |
That's fascinating that a substitute IA makes only $5 less per day than a substitute teacher. Seriously though, there are a LOT of things I'd rather do for $100/day than sub... |
I agree. I didn’t realize the difference is only 82 cents/hour. |
|
The IA substitute pay is about right, but the teacher sub pay is seriously too low. The teacher is responsible for the lesson and classroom management and only gets $5 more for the whole day? |
there was about 100 last night... |
