| Did you know it is close to impossible for teachers to find subs? It is bleeping crazy wrong. I contacted 12 different people to sub for me. Is every school in FCPS having this issue? My principal is very frustrated. |
| We have the same problem in Arlington. |
| Same at my FCPS school. |
|
15 an hour?
People can make that and benefits at Starbucks |
But they don't have the flexibility to work when they want to. Subs can choose what days they want to take a job. |
Or you can look at it like this: Consistent hours and schedule at Starbucks I pay a babysitter 15 an hour to watch 1 child |
| Both teachers here and we are experiencing this too. Sub pay is low. They dropped the retired teacher rate by what, $6 or 7/ hour? |
| There's no way I'd want to be a sub. Too many students are so disrespectful to the subs. |
| I'm an administrator and always see the sub situation as a barometer for our economy. When there's a shortage, the economy is good. When it's in the tank like in 2008...2009 etc, then we had every sub position filled with really competent people. Didn't matter the grade level or subject. |
| Some of our regular subs have been filling in for full time positions that haven't been filled. |
+1 |
So basically you're saying that the job is for people who don't need to be invested in working as a sub on a daily basis because they don't need to work or subbing isn't their main job. |
| Wait, do teachers have to find their own subs? |
2 options: -teacher contacts someone who agrees to the job, they put that person in the system. -teacher puts job in the system, anyone registered as a sub can pick it up. Sometimes you get an awesome sub, more often it's an utter disaster |
| What happens if the teacher puts the job in and no one takes it? |
