I think he's too old already, but would have been good earlier. |
They say ages 3-10. |
| Just reading this whole threat for the first time. I've said it before and i'll say it again; This SN board is the nastiest board on dcum. A bunch of angry, angry parents on here who hide in the anonymity of the internet. |
Have a great day! |
OP, I posted the SN school fair AU link on the last thread: Here it is again just in case: http://www.exceptionalschoolsfair.com Here's a list of SN schools listed on Baltimore's Child Magazine: http://baltimoreschild.com/special-needs-school/ (Depending where you live in DC, there might be some good options geographically. DC Association for SN Education: http://dcase.org MANSEF: http://mansef.org VAISEF: https://www.vaisef.org You may want to look at Kingsbury KEEP program if you'd like to delay K. I'm not discouraging you from applying to some mainstream schools, but you may also want to consider a few SN schools in the mix. |
It doesn't sound like she wants to consider SN schools. |
No, I'm considering them, just not sure they are our only or best option. |
Consider it this way--most people no matter how gifted they are, don't apply to just Stanford, Harvard, and Yale. They put some safety schools in there. Getting an educational evaluation of your kid by a psychologist may be helpful to help you understand his strengths and weaknesses regardless of what school he attends, but one is necessary for a SN school application. Tour SN schools that seem like a good fit, apply to one or two that would meet his needs. The SN school will become familiar with your child's needs through the application and meet your kid if he does a play date. If for some reason he is counseled out or not accepted to a mainstream school, it's much less stressful for you and your kid if you have a fallback plan. |

Oh, also, OP this program is new, Ivymount and the Stevens school: http://www.ivymountatstevens.org/cms/One.aspx
There's been a poster who's child has started and it sounds like it's been a game changer. |
Doesn't this program start in third grade? |
