| We live in the discovery boundary in one of the renovated older homes that would probably sell for $750k. We are probably considered poor by the folks in the $1.4m new builds but we don't care. We are pretty close in, have great neighbors and a great school pyramid and don't feel poor or the need to keep up with the Joneses. There are lots of folks like us here, like there are in many other 22205 and 22207 neighborhoods. So OP, if you find a house here, welcome to the neighborhood. |

The cheapest house I'm seeing listed in at zone is 799k and it might actually be Jamestown.
You people who say you live in 700k older homes... When did you buy? I'm not seeing them and the few that get listed are snapped up for cash or sell over 8. Op- if you've got a million bucks plus... Go for it. It's got a slide. |
Jamestown is a great school. Houses may be more expensive there, though. |
This is us too, except that our house is older and not renovated - NBD. We love the neighborhood and school. |
A lot of Jamestown families 'team' into Science Focus elem. I am ASF-zoned and like the school, but always wondered what motivates them to go across town instead of to their neighborhood school. |
| 14:38- I bought for less in 2011 but assume given comps that I could probably sell for around $750. The houses that sell in the 800's are nicer or bigger than mine and it's not a 600's tear down with two bedrooms. Cheaper houses do come up but often they get snapped up by developers to put up a $1.4m new build. |
| I thank everyone for all this real estate info but we are already in boundary for the Discovery, I just wanted some reviews since it's so new. |
I don't get it, if there are no test scores and its only a year old, how is it the most coveted school? How to answer OP's question? |
No, they actually do not anymore. Not since things got really crowded. As for the motivation, there's this mistaken belief in some circles that ASFS is some elite stem incubator. Of course, it's not -- that would be like saying Jamestown, with its tech focus, is an incubator for Silicon Valley-bound coders. But put "science focus" in a name and you're going to fool some people. Even those who live in $2 million County Club Hills mansions. |
1) Everyone knows the demographics are exactly the same as the high-performing schools next to the zone since it was carved out of those. So the absence of test scores isn't an issue. 2) It's new. People like new. 3) The slide. Did you hear about the slide? |

| Most people like it. However there have been growing pains. It's new, it's going to take a few years to get everything running like a machine a la Nottingham. However I have not noticed any difference instructionally from Nottingham and the demographics are exactly the same. IMO the folks who went back to Nottingham (not sure who they are or if it's a rumor or what) jumped the gun. Nothing about the growing pains is compromising the education of the kids. Are you 100% amazing on the first day of your new job? No. Relax and give it time and give the teachers and admin a little break. |
I'm framing this and hanging it on the wall. |
