APS Discovery elementary school?

I don't know what to really say about it - communication is pretty abysmal, teaching depends on the teacher (there are great ones and there are not great ones), the building is certainly new and shiny. There are things to appreciate about it but it's in its first year and there are absolutely growing pains. The principal and the AP have no elementary background, for instance. But are most families happy? In general, I'd say yes, at least at my well-attended bus stop. My child generally likes going to school, which is a plus.

To the PP who said that there are no young children in this area...you are full of it. My neighborhood alone is packed to the gills with them. I don't think you know what you are talking about!

So how did your child's teacher respond when you told her how you felt at PT conference?

Communication was bad in the beginning of the year. It was just very scattered- some were posting info on the website, others emailing, others tweeting, some stuff via "peach jar".... There was a big mid year meeting with parents and communication came up as the number one issue. Since then it's been much improved, there is a weekly email that all teachers must post and email every Thursday by 5.
PP, have you seen improvement? I have multiple children at Discovery and there was a big change.

I think they are taking parental feedback and making changes. Not sure what more we can ask them to do- they are being responsive.

Sounds like you actually know what to say about it.

Aww, that added a lot to the conversation. Thanks.
