Time to fall in love with some new names!
Amelia Audrey Ava Beatrice Caroline Chloe Clara Corinne Delphine Eliza Evelyn Helena Josephine (Josie?) Julia Louisa Lucy Nora Rachel Sophie Stella Therese (Tess?) Vivian |
| Just name your dd Margot but pick a different middle name and spell it the conventional way. No one owns a name. Your DD will see her cousin only a few times a year right? Esp with the age gap it's really really not a big deal. |
| Not to mention that Margaux is a hideous name to saddle a little girl with. |
Aw, I think it's a cute name. However, no name is worth all this drama and angst. As a PP said, OP just try to focus on the new bundle of joy that is coming into your life and on your own little nuclear family. Don't worry about your sister or anyone else. This time in your life is precious as you are starting a new family of your own. I like Elaine and Elise both (though I wouldn't use the spelling w/ a y because it would cause too much confusion. Grace is a nice middle name too. I think Elaine Grace or Elise Grace would be a nice name for your daughter. Here are some other names that to me seem to have a kind of similar feeling to the ones you like, if you want to just forget all names associated w/ your sister's family and start fresh altogether: Madeline Violet Alice Evelyn Margaret Eleanor Vivian/Vivienne Juliet Bridget Abigail Camille Victoria |

| elise! I love that name |
These are all beautiful names! Pick one of these. |
Wait, your niece's name is Margaux Elise, and you are considering naming your daughter Elyse Margaux? I don't think that name poaching is even a thing, but that's weird. Also, I think Elaine Margaux sounds better. |
|
Okay, having read the whole thread, I agree that OP has some larger issues to deal with. I'd choose a name for your daughter that doesn't involve some long-simmering tension between you and your sister.
If you like Elise and Margaux, what about: Louise Elena Camille Amelie Leonie Alyssa Aline Estelle Daphne Also, Margaux is not a made-up spelling, or at least not by OP. Ernest Hemingway's granddaughter was named Margaux, among others, and it's on the list of the most popular girls' names in Belgium for 2014. |
It is absolutely a made-up spelling. Ernest Hemingway's granddaughter was named Margot, she changed it to the made-up spelling later in life in honor of the wine. She started the trend of spelling it that way. |

OP, there is no way these are the only names you like. This is some obsessive sister jealousy thing you have going on.
I think it's fine to name your daughter Elise but frankly I'd choose something else all together. Something classic like Elizabeth or Catherine or Charlotte! |
I second Boaty McBoatface |
| I really want to know what OP decides. Good luck OP! |
+1 from me too. |
| How about Marguerite? You could use Maya as a nickname or even Margo/Margot. (If Margo, tell you sister the nickname was started by someone else and stuck.) That way you could call the baby the name you like, but wouldn't really be using your niece's name. (Maya Angelou's first name is actually Marguerite.) |
