| Wait - you're taking niece's name and swapping the first and middle? Could you at least TRY to be a little more creative? |
But she has liked the name since she was a child and even has stories and drawings to prove it! |
And anyone who says that is unreasonable is "mean," even though she asked.

OP, why don't you just use Margaux and then choose a different middle name. You will look a little bit crazy but not as crazy as you will look for using both. Since it sounds like you have a terrible relationship with your sister anyway, the kids won't hang out much and the only fallout will be that your family members will think it's a little weird. So, just call DD Margaux Grace or Margaux Anne or Margaux Claire, and explain to your sister that you have liked the name since you were a child and you know it's odd but you couldn't stand to miss out on it.
Actually, the fake french spelling of Margot makes it look like a pluralization of something, so having two of them is perfect. Les deux Margaux. |

OP, I don't doubt that your sister was awful to you. You're very upset about this and these deep-seated emotions don't come out of nowhere. But please don't dig in your heels and let this define you and your child.
Right now you're pregnant and it's highlighting existing family issues. You want to be treated fairly for once and this is the hill you're choosing to die on. It's unlikely that you'll ever get the validation of your feelings that you're looking for. It's not clear whether or not your sister knew this was your favorite name, but even if she did, it's best not to react to this and make it a bigger thing. It's tough to do, but try to transcend this and pick a different name. This isn't the only name you can be happy with. This issue sounds like it's more about your sister than your daughter. One day you'll be glad you didn't pick your daughter's name to prove a point. Please consider talking to a therapist for a few sessions to help you deal with the issues with your family. It sounds like you weren't treated well and it's taking a hard toll on you. Do this now so you can be in a better place when you have your child. You can overcome your past. Hang in there, and pick a different name. |
Les deux Margeaux. Love it |
| I'm hoping OP is a troll. If not, it just makes me sad to know that such an unhinged, crass woman lacking in maturity or imagination is about to become a parent. I don't give a rip what you name your child. You're definitely depressing. |
| I wonder what OP will do if she has a second daughter? |
I asked. No answer. |
Ha! Seriously, do Margot Grace or Elise Grace and let that be the end of it. Plus, since you don't seem to care for your sister, you can always smugly think to yourself that you used the proper spelling. |

+1. Troll thread. It's just too unbelievable. |
Donald Trump is about to be nominated as a candidate for a major party for president. Nothing is unbelievable any more. |
Why tell her. My son's name is pretty common with a couple family members having the same name. They all think he's named after them...and we just smile and don't correct. He's named after a president. |
