Really? Did they send out an email?

NP here -- guessing the PP learned by someone speaking to him/her and there was no email message involved.

Who let you know? The classroom teacher or AAP? Did you ask or did they just let you know?

If those of you who have heard directly are willing, could you tell us which school your child attends? Thanks.

It was the AAP, and it was unsolicited. I know at our school she let people know who were admitted, as I know of two others. I'm not sure if she also notified people who were not admitted.

I think the teacher way way back is probably frustrated by parents who push their kids into AAP centers and lots of additional homework for years for what result? Nothing, as far as he/she can tell. So teachers see kids who are stressed in elementary needlessly because the parents are determined to "take advantage of a great FCPS program" even if it isn't the best idea for their kid. Sometimes (not always) teachers see things that parents don't and it makes them sad and irritable. FWIW. I run a preschool and you would absolutely NOT believe what percentage of parents tell us how incredibly advanced their kids are and how they need additional attention to meet their academic needs. Guess how many kids are actually advanced beyond their peers? maybe 1 in 10 of those who tell us their kids are. It's a joke to us. A sad, sad state of affairs.

PP here. Reread my post and it is somewhat disrespectful which I didn't mean. I guess I just personally feel like my kids did better at the local elementary - no local level 4 services - than they would have at a center. But I am also not a believer in much homework below high school. I've been really happy with my kids performance and how their base school has served them academically and socially. That may not be the case for every elementary school though. Good luck finding the right place everyone - and definitely don't sweat it if your kids do not get AAP. And think twice about a center if they do get AAP. All is well.

I think it depends on the school and, likely, the teacher. I have 2 kids who went to a center (no local level IV) and had very little homework. I think you need to talk to parents at your specific base school and center, as things vary from school to school.

+1

My two kids who attended a Center school had very little homework. I also found it is very teacher dependent.
