Nidal Hassan was taken alive, too. I think that has more to do with having 200 media cameras focused on the situation rather than race or ethnicity. When nobody is watching, cops often do what they want. Or they exhibit how poorly they've been trained. Take your pick. That's why I'm a big fan of car and body cameras. |
You need to take a look at the criminal justice industrial complex. Generations of families destroyed by harsh criminal sentencing for non-violent crimes. Google the NYTimes story that sees the current opioid drug epidemic as a public health crisis. In the 80s and 90s, when the same epidemic was destroying black families, Public policy was to let people die or lock them up. Now that it's suburban moms crying out about teens overdosing, there are politicians falling all over themselves to help - help the families that can't keep their kids in line. Can't keep the white middle class death rate from rising. This will get more attention and action from policy makers than BLM on the Magnificent Mile. Count on it and quit your bitchin'. |
Lol what does someone personal choice have too do with the state murdering black men and women? I'm not suppose to demand accountability from people who salaries I pay because someone I dont know had a baby out of wedlock? I love how whites can copy and paste blk stats, but knows nothing about their own dismal failures Ps. The worst case of cop brutality happen to African immiugrants not black Americans |
Really?? You don't think "liberals" want people to be parents too? No one is absolving parents of their responsibility. How long did it take for them to find the guy who killed the 9 year old? One week. How long did it take the police to release the video of the cop - 14 MONTHS and ONLY after going to court. The LaQuan kid was a ward of the state. His mother abandoned him, then when she got him back at 3, her boyfriend beat him up. Oh sure, that kid had a chance?? The city settled with the family for $5M last year. I am a liberal and I want to know what the hell for? His mother got $5M for being a fucked up mother? I've seen a ton of coverage on the guy and the kid killed. A ton. And there should be. I've come to realized that there is just a generation lost. I hate to say it, but alot of those folks can never work. They just can't. They haven't seen someone go to work in 3 generations. Seriously. I've seen it with my husband's family. After meeting them, I realized that it is what it is. These folks have NO skills. They can't even communicate. You can complain about government services if you want, but you will be paying for these people - either in jail, as the homeless or through TANF. |
At the expensae of black neighborhoods, but its just Black's so who cares right? If this isn't a prime example of blk lives not mattering I don't know what is |
Well, not exactly. The implicit premise of this kind of protest is that it is ethical to inflict costs on uninvolved people, such as random shoppers, so that they will pressure politicians to appease the protestors. I take issue with that premise, but BLM is making a tactical error. Attempting to hold whites as a whole collectively accountable for criminal conduct by the police will merely prompt a response where whites are incentivized to hold blacks collectively accountable for black crime as a whole, which is orders of magnitude more prevalent. And whites remain the majority and are well armed. I just don't see how that endgame looks good for BLM. |
The problem with your hypothesis is that it assumes that support/or non of BLM is by race. As a white woman, and I take offense to that. I support any American who exercises their rights to protest an injustice in America. In fact it is our responsibility to do so. Just like 55 years ago when some shoppers were also inconvenienced at a Woolworth department store soda counter in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Blue Wall of Silence that permeates our police force aids it in becoming a criminal entity. Shooting unarmed citizens they are charged to protect and serve is horrendous. The facts that more black men are being shot by police when they are a minority only strengths the argument that racial bias exists. |
BLM is holding society as a whole, not just white people, responsible for criminal conduct by the police. As well they should. Racism is an American problem, not just a black American problem. Everyone benefits if we can reduce or eliminate it from our culture. |
Actually, I wrote what Spot On liked, and I'm a Lib, too. I said it before - that we've failed as a society to wean people off social programs and we've enabled a sense of victimhood in many. I've worked with kids in foster homes. Many don't make it in a comprehensive setting. The people working with these kids have good hearts (most, not all), but they simply cannot make up for years of lost parenting. These kids are abandoned, neglected, and many were repeatedly molested by an uncle or boyfriend before CPS intervened. However, the same can be said for many kids living in poverty - abandoned by parents who are either too damn lazy to work or by those working multiple jobs just to keep a meal on the table. But there are those living in poverty who make sacrifices. I can name several kids who made it - with mainly fathers working their asses off so that someone - a mother, aunt, or grandmother - would be the stable adult figure. These kids were loved, and many ended up with academic scholarships (not athletic) to some solid universities. On the flip side, there are parents, home all day, sucking up the system, who aren't involved. Good, responsible parents make sacrifices and understand what love and support are. What did you expect would happen to a kid like Laquan McDonald who was abused, neglected and passed around? Who's to blame in this case? white society? Is that the easy answer? Instead of placing blame on some "entity," create more alternative schools with mental health resources and teachers TRAINED in dealing with troubled kids. Illiterate kids will turn to crime. They'll steal, murder, and join gangs unless people recognize the need to recreate an environment where kids have boundaries and are held to high expectations. |
You make me laugh. As a white woman, are you working directly with kids like Laquan? I do - every single day. So this white woman puts her money where her mouth is. Standing around, protesting does nothing. all hot air, no action - So people inconvenienced shoppers for a day. Amazon is the solution to that problem. |
You are right I don't put my money were my mouth is. I am a person of action and donate my skills, 3 months a year, to Doctors Without Borders. Im glad your money makes you feel good about yourself. I do prefer action. |
What does any of that have to do with a case like treyvon martin, who was followed and murdered? Do u not understand why blm is protestung ? U promote this false narrative that "black thugs" are being shot doiwn when that's rarely even the case. If Dylan roof who executed 9 people can get his day in court unharmed so should everyone else thug or not. Guilty or not |
You work with kids like Laquan? Then why did you assume that the shoppers are white, and why on earth would you suggest that BLM "inflicted costs" merely by protesting in the shopping area? Since when is a protest "inflicting costs"??? I find it hard to believe that someone who "works with kids like Laquan" would have any problem shopping there. |
Resorting to name calling does not respond to the basic issue! Can you really compare the token demonstrations that have taken place against black on black violence with what BLM is doing to protest violence by law enforcement? In the case of Chicago, these demonstrations should be taking place in the heart of the South side where the decimation of young blacks is occurring. But that will not happen, will it? |
Police execution of black men and women is a country wide issue not one just in Chicago. Them not protesting some other issue doesn't make their issue non valid. I recall a big push for gun control in the 90's by black leaders and poloticians that was always shot down and ignored, because people like u thought it was an excuse remember the popular phrase "guns don't kill blacks, blacks do", so even the constant protest to end inner city crime falls on death ears. |
