Agree. Just don't respond that night for anything that is not an emergency that occurs after your curfew time. Respond first thing in the morning. For many, texting is like voicemail in that they can send a message and you can opt to respond whenever is appropriate for you. If it is waking you up, turn off the alert chime for your texts or don't bring it to bed. Otherwise, just respond when you feel is appropriate.

OP Here: I'm up past 11pm so it's not that it's waking me up but just the annoyance that she thinks texting us after 11pm in a group chat is okay. She's also one of those people that doesn't just type it all out in one text, it came in 3 seperate texts. I'm going to start ignoring her anytime after 9pm and hopefully she gets the hint. I still think texting us is unprofessional though and I do feel like she should be sending us questions like this in a email or a phone call.

How about you tell your boyfriend not to leave his dog in his truck in a crate. Perhaps y'all should have sat outside with the dog if he were so inclined to bring it.

Op here- because we had no reason to do that? She was in a regulated dog box (not a crate) and there was no reason for us to sit outside with her. She was calm for awhile until a ups truck drove by and that's When she barked and he got her.

It's cruel. It's not all about you and your boyfriend.

It's a metal, open air dog box. It's illegal to keep your dog locked in your car but with this, it's not illegal. So if someone called the cops saying there is a dog "locked in a car" and the cops came and saw the dog box, there would be no issues.
It's completely vented so the dogs not suffocating in it.

Wait - so let's say it's 99 degrees out and the dog is in the sun in the back of a truck in a 'regulated vented dog box'. The dog can't overheat? WTF are you smoking?

Or it's 70 degrees out and the dog is in a 'regulated dog box' inside a locked truck, the dog can't overheat? Really?

Someone didn't take a science class - or pass it.

Now let's say the dog is fine temperature-wise. It is still locked in a box (regular or not) rather than in yours or his company, being able to walk around, fetch, sit, stay.

I would not date a guy who does this to his pet, nor would I do this to my pet.

I'm confused.

Your lease says no pets. So the dog should not be in the house or on the porch or yard. Even for a visit.

OP here: Actually no, our lease doesn't say no pets. Our lease that we have says "cats allowed and dogs considered", it's been this way for 3 years. Last year, I asked her about getting a dog and she said she wasn't comfortable with a dog living in the house at that time and I hadn't asked her since. Clearly she still feels that way since she decided to remind me last night that she didnt want a dog in the house. She can't ban me from having a car in the driveway with a dog in it......

No she can't. Or around the property. It's absurd.

I'm glad you know the lease. Knowledge is power, you can use that to fight any attempt from her to give you a fine or penalty.

Dog people call that a crate.

I would not leave my dog in an open-air crate/box in the back of a truck. The dog could still easily overheat, especially if there's no shade. Plus, it's not fun for the dog. Leave her at his house.

He does not keep her in it when its 99 degrees out but for the record, I don't live in DC and it barely got above 85 where I am this past summer but either way, she was never in it when it was hot and he doesn't keep her locked in it all day or even for hours on end. Please don't pull stuff out of your ass.

She texted us in a group chat tonight at 11:15pm telling us that she received a fine in the mail from the homeowners association saying that there was a dog tied up and barking outside all day and asking u if we knew anything about this. Last weekend, my boyfriend stopped by for the afternoon and had his dog with him. We aren't allowed to have dogs in our condo so he kept her in her dog box in his truck. She barked ONE TIME and he went outside to walk her around a bit within 2 minutes of her barking. She has never been tied up outside and definitely hasn't been tied up and barking ALL DAY outside. I told her all of this and she continued texting me for 20 minutes telling me she would contact the homeowners association on Monday and also reminding us "no dogs are allowed inside the house".

I don't think it's okay for her to be texting us after 11pm at night. I find it highly unprofessional on her part to even be texting us, let alone texting us after 11pm at night. My roommate is equally annoyed and wants to send her an email saying that any issues going forward need to be sent to us via email and to please not call/text us after 9pm which I feel is reasonable.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Why the hell are you answering her back? CALL her in the morning, tell her about the dog visiting and then drop it.

It is NOT a crate though. This is a $300+ dog box that was built to go in the bed of his truck. It's open air on all 4 sides and the top. It was 70 degrees last Sunday when he was here with her, she was fine. She had water and was completely fine. This post was not about the dog being in a dog box in a truck.
