One of the main reasons that this topic on the issues with black hair care never moves forward is because this is such a touchy subject with black women.

Consequently, people who might have the opportunity to become informed don't. It's too bad. If there was less knee-jerk defensiveness and sensitivity on the topic of weaves and wigs, then maybe more people could understand. Plus, it is not fair to play the race card every time this sensitive subject comes up.

The OP played the race card. The race card is in the subject line.

Jeff if you agree that even the subject line is provoking and subsequently inviting offensive posters, can't you see that the entire thread is going nowhere? Please lock this thread.

When I first saw this thread my intention was to delete it. But, the first response convinced me that it was worth leaving. I think the subject line is provocative, if not downright offensive. But, far from inviting offensive posters, the vast majority of the responses have been substantive and not offensive.

That very well could be the only productive post in this 6 page long thread. It was immediaty followed by posters insisting that only celebrity white women get weaves despite many pics showing otherwise. If subsequent posts acknowledged that it was good learning info to learn these things I can see this thread as being "educational" but that's not the case. Nearly every other post has been unproductive and down right offensive.

You've made your point. Each time you post you keep the thread alive. You may want to reconsider your strategy.

Anonymous wrote:You clearly don't understand Afro-textured hair at all. It's not just about waiting patiently for their own hair to grow. Some women who wear weaves have long natural hair. I get my hair braided every summer to protect it while I go to the beach and my own type 4 hair is bra strap length.

I suggest you educate yourself before speaking publicly, albeit anonymously.

I'm AA with natural hair. I HATE WEAVE. I wonder myself. Don't they know they look ridiculous!!!

So does this look ridiculous to you? How about the bottom one?

hmm the OP has a point actually. When Lupita Nyongo, one of the most beautiful women in the world in my opinion, displayed her natural beauty, skin, and hair on the cover of a magazine a lot of black people called her ugly because they said she didn't have long straight hair (weave) but instead wore her hair natural and short. So the OP has a point that since american black women are more likely to wear a wig or weave the natural hair is much prettier and less fake.

That is an OPINION not a fact. Many people in my circle felt Nupita was beautiful with natural hair. That doesn't mean we think Oprah, Beyoncé, or Keri Washington is any less beautiful for wearing what's widely known and worn amongst black, white and Latina women. When JLo wears a weave I think she looks beautiful, when she wears what looks like natural shoulder length I also think she looks beautiful. Why does it have to be a black/white thing when ALL types of women wear them (and NOT just celebrities)?

Well the black celebrities are well known for wearing weaves or fake hair but a lot called Lupita ugly for her natural hair and said she looked like a man or was 'too dark' even though she was named People's most beautiful woman in the world. One person commented on that forum that black guys were just into the american media's visual for the beautiful black woman which is fake long straight hair and lighter skin but Lupita went against all of that and still got the beautiful title which she actually is.

What the hell are you talking about? Seriously? Are you black? I've been black all my life and no one--NO ONE--in my social circles has called Lupita N'yongo anything but gorgeous and just all-around impressive (incredibly graceful and dignified, Yale School of Drama grad, tasteful and stylish). How do you quantify "a lot of black people?" Or are you just going by what you saw in the comments section on Yahoo?

I'm the PP upthread who said I only have one AA acquaintance who wears extensions and they look great. I think commenters like you need to take a seat if you're not speaking from personal experience and instead are making sweeping generalizations about whole groups of people based on what you read online--and those ugly commenters may or may not really be black, in case you didn't realize that.

Why are threads disparaging black (and often Asian) women considered informative, but when a thread trolls about white women it gets deleted or moved to a forum that gets little traffic?

Where did you read this?

DCUM she read it on DCUM. Of course it was white women that were making the comments. This thread is sickening.
