The current weave, wig, fake straight hair trend among black women.

Bet you thought they just had nice full hair when you saw them at work huh? Or maybe took prenatal pills or that infinity pill Kim K is always pushing??!! GTFOH! And these are just pics of a mid-end DC salon. You don't want me to get yelp pics of high end DC/NYC.

Let's get real, it's like beyonce having blonde straight hair or an Asian having blonde hair. Most white dyed blondes were born blonde and it faded to brown with age so it looks correct. You shouldn't try to over fake it.

So you're saying it's ok for white people to get weaves but not black people?

Okay sure white women get weaves but black women do in significantly higher numbers. Ditto wigs. So OP was referring to this general tendency and that's what this thread is about.

I am reporting this thread. It's sickening.

I've received several complaints about this thread and I have removed a couple of offensive posts, but overallI think it is reasonably informative. Perhaps that because I know nothing about the topic (I'm still not sure what a weave is), but as long as folks are civil I'm inclined to leave it open.

No, that's not what OP was talking about either. But nice try.

It's basically extra hair blended with your own to thicken it and/or make it longer.

I haven't read this whole thread, but I wonder how old OP is that she's just noticing straight weaves and calling it a trend. I'm AA and have never had extensions but a lot of my friends had them 20 years ago in high school--nothing new about it at all. The "trend," if there is one, is natural hair (i.e., AA hair that is not straightened by heat or chemical processes). I myself have not relaxed my hair in over 10 years. Many of my educated AA friends also have natural hair. I've read articles about how the relaxer industry is shrinking as more AA women choose natural hair. Only one person I can think of wears extensions, but it's high quality and actually looks great.

How do you all feel about white people with dreads

Are you OP?

There was already a thread about this last summer. Go there and read the zillion comments. Let this one stay civil like Jeff suggested.

CVS, Target, Ulta salon and a lot of similar stores in predominantly white areas also sell the clip in ponytails.

The entire premise of the thread is offensive. White women get weaves in droves. For OP to make such a sweeping generalization is hugely offensive. OK didn't ask in an inquiring way, she asked in generalizing way. Hair for black women is a very personal thing and when OP comes the way she did, she do so to purposely provoke. It's especially offensive when dozens of pics are shown of white women with weaves and nothing is said about them. Jeff, as a part black women, I can tell you this entire thread is very offensive especially with how it was brought up. I would be ok of the post was simply inquisitive about how they work.

Curiosity is normal, but OP came with a set of assumptions and a judgement. No excuse for anyone with an internet connection to be that clueless about weaves or extensions in 2015.

There's a wealth of really well-done informative sites online about black hair styles and hair care these days. I have a few non-AA friends who have Trans-racially adopted AA/part-AA girls and needed to quickly educate themselves.
