What do you do about the lube? |
OP here. An update: The night before they arrived, we were doing a rather panicky clean of the house (after a long workday and commute). There was stress. There was tension. I had been trying to do a little bit each night to get ready and had tackled the fridge, some weeding, and DH had done a great job on the porch.
He set up the beds with us and our kids in the basement, and ILs in our room/bed. It started to dawn on him what it would take to get our bathroom and walk in closet "IL friendly". He stated that perhaps he had made the wrong decision. I said nothing and continued with toilets and sinks. He eventually reversed course and set up the basement for them. I felt enormous relief. We put the kids on mattresses in our main floor office/TV room, and the IL's in the basement with both my son's single and my daughter's queen made up and available. The lube stayed in it's usual drawer. So far there has only been one complaint, about the sound of water down there keeping FIL awake. This was only for 2 nights, we have since decamped to the palatial VRBO ILs rented for the week. We will be back at our house, spiders and all, for 3 more nights (during the workweek, god help me), before it all comes to a close. Yes, I wish we had a house with a massive guest suite, but then we would have a hellish commute. Note to self: make more money in next life. Side note: an unintended consequence of this dilemma was that the night before ILs arrived, my stress erupted and I was able to proactively tell my DH that on this visit I wanted him to be more supportive of me, not act like I was a random who no one was really sure why she was there, and actively and vocally say complementary things about me right in front of his mother. The reason he avoids doing this, even though I believe he does appreciate me, is because she will go into a sulk when he does this. |
Thanks for the update, OP. Glad your husband got on board at the last minute. LOL that your FIL was worried about loud water vs. the uninvited spiders lurking. ![]() |
