I haven't read this whole thread, but I just wanted to make sure that someone clarified that lower Defcon numbers are more serious than higher Defcon numbers. Defcon does not work like the homeland security threat status system. Let's make our troll alerts accurate, people.

09:23, are you kidding me? I am very tempted to write something rude but will refrain!

You said you wanted to know what high ses white people do; you most certainly made it about race. Next time try being more subtle in your trolling.

Let me clarify, I am not the OP. My first post was 07:00. My point was that kids can be exposed to negative behavior anywhere. I used a recent example of something we experienced at the playground. We live in a diverse socioeconomic area. I never mentioned race. BTW, I am not a troll. If you don't believe my story, please visit Raymond Rec Center. If you visit enough you will see fights and plenty of curse words.

My thoughts exactly. Like my higher class AA friends don't care about their kids being exposed to bad behavior (regardless of skin color or class). OP can suck a dick. Oh and OP, "suck a dick" generally just means "kiss my ass" or "bitch please"

DC transplants love to themselves this when they are really middle class. Especially in this area. One job away from the poor does not equate HIGH SES.

Can you please point us to the government document where "high social-economic status (SES)" is officially defined?

It's all relative. It's also not all about money, but education as well.

To clarify (again), the poster who wrote about experience at the playground is not OP! I'm not sure how anybody could think using curse words in front of young kids is appropriate, regardless of your race or economic status. And what ever the expression "suck dick" means, it is gross!

If you live in the city, you are going to see things that can be scary for kids. Fights, drunks, armed roobery at Trolley Park in Columbia heights. Why is pointing this make me a racist?

Again, when asking directly what do higher class white folks do when facing this "issue", it draws so many racists conclusions. I don't think anyone is saying that language is okay, it's called sarcasm. Sometimes sarcasm is a good way to deal with things when you are responding to a person/people that are so inherently racists. Laugh to keep from crying. I've heard little white boys at turtle park yelling at their moms and dropping the b-bomb. I've also heard little black boys dropping s words as well. I tell my kid that is not acceptable behavior or language and it will never be allowed.

What are you talking about? Government documents? Stop killing the middle class.

I think PP is saying a household that brings in $250k is considered higher SES. Contrary to what people think, there are people making $250k buying in Petworth, Columbia Heights, Shepherd Park, Brookland and others. Not just WOTP.

And despite what OP thinks, some of those families making $250k+ are black!

Okay, but when I talked about my experiences, I never mentioned the race of the children. You made your own assumptions. I am not a racist, whatever you may think. The OP was asking what to do when her kids might see things she didn't want them to witness. If you live in any urban setting, this will probably happen and your kids may be affected. My kids were scared when they saw older kids fighting at the playground. Does that make me a racist? I am sure lots of parents of all races would like to shield their kids from things that are scary.

If you're only asking upper class white parents, then yes that makes OP racist. If not racist, at the very least an idiotic person.

Same here. We also looked at Petworth but were lost out on 2 houses. I guess OP wouldn't want my opinion when we witness such behavior. She likely thinks my little one curses and avoids us at the playground like the plague. Little does she know, my kid is a chess/violin playing genius that has never heard a rap song and to my knowledge a curse word. Sad how stereotypes form our opinion of others.
